To make the Pelosi/Schumer address even more awkward...

  • Katie Pavlich | Jan 08, 2019 9:24 PM est

From the RNC:

"Tonight, Americans saw their president fighting for a solution to fund our government while protecting American citizens, versus the approach of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer which is to resist, resist, resist at all costs," said Chairwoman McDaniel. "It wasn’t always this way. President Trump is simply asking Democrats to support border security policies they all supported just a few short years ago. It’s time for Democrats to put down their swords and work with President Trump."

Chuck and Nancy keep saying there is no crisis.  A plurality of Americans disagree in the latest Politico poll, with roughly 80% saying there's a "crisis" or "problem."

Is this a hostage video or a Democrat response?

Notable from Trump: No declaration of a national emergency, which was widely rumored as a possibility.

Schumer says Trump failed to convince the American people to back the border wall.

He must have missed the GoFundMe campaign that raised millions.

"Hostage" word count: Two, so far.

Small note: This side-by-side is awkward.  They don't both fit behind the smaller podium.

Okay, here we go with Chuck and Nancy.

Trump focused on the underlying issue -- immigration and border security.  Democrats are focusing on the shutdown.

A very partisan speech, but Trump acknowledged shifting his preferences for how the wall would be built (steel slats vs. concrete) based on Democratic criticism, and called on members of both parties to negotiate a resolution tomorrow.  Among other things, he mentioned Chuck Schumer's past support for physical barriers -- a term he used much more frequently than "The Wall."

POTUS reminds Americans that he took an oath of office to serve and protect the American people and that's what he intends to do.

President Trump speaking directly to Americans by asking them "What if it were your child?" who was killed by an illegal alien. Illegal immigration impacts everyone, not just those living near the border.

"How much more American blood needs to be shed before Congress does their job?"

  • Katie Pavlich | Jan 08, 2019 9:09 PM est

President Trump now detailing a series of heinous and horrific crimes committed against Americans by illegal aliens.

  • Beth Baumann | Jan 08, 2019 9:09 PM est

Trump remembers Cpl. Ronil Singh who was murdered by an illegal alien.

  • Guy Benson | Jan 08, 2019 9:08 PM est

Trump takes aim at Pelosi's ridiculous "immoral" statement about walls, without mentioning her by name.  Now discussing the illegal immigrant who murdered a police officer just after Christmas.
