Where Have All The Hate Criminals Gone?

Liberals must love hate crimes. Why else would they fabricate so many of them?

It could be that few events do more to both foster the liberal narrative and further the liberal political agenda than an old-fashioned skoal-chomping, meth-snorting, beer-can-chucking hate crime committed by some racist, toothless wife-beater-clad redneck. And if there’s a Confederate flag flying somewhere, so much the better.

Except, that caricature is becoming increasingly rare these days, thankfully, as are liberal opportunities to project, virtue-signal, and “guilt-by-associate” all white, Trump-supporting conservatives with the same sick brush.

Enter Jussie Smollett, a gay, black, liberal, Trump-hating actor - or essentially as close to royalty as could possibly exist in modern-day America - whose “victimhood” that infamous January night hit all the right notes - white, Trump-supporting, MAGA-hat wearing, racial epithet-shouting perps, the racial connotations around the application of a chemical substance that may or may not have been bleach, and even a rope, er, noose around the actor’s neck, just in case anyone had any doubts about whether these bad guys were Klan-era lynch-mob-type racists or just your average MAGA-hat-wearing Trump supporting kind just looking for a gay black guy to pound on the mean streets of Chicago in the middle of the night because, you know, “this is MAGA Country!”

Yeah, there were all sorts of holes in Smollett’s story, and it all came to a head Saturday when Chicago police sources told media that the “Empire” actor may have paid two Nigerian brothers to stage the “hate crime” against him. Oh, the irony, especially for pencil-necked liberals who seemed to relish the opportunity to declare their moral virtue and teach America a “lesson” in tolerance.

The moral preening began in earnest as soon as news of the “attack” broke, right along with the ominous warning about “far-right America’s endgame.”

Yeah, that’s right - “The racist, homophobic attack on Jussie Smollett is far-right America’s endgame,” GQ tweeted in what was and still is, sadly, a real tweet (go ahead, click it).

“What happened today to Jussie Smollett must never be tolerated in this country,” tweeted Joe Biden. “We must stand up and demand that we no longer give this hate safe harbor; that homophobia and racism have no place on our streets or in our hearts.”

Rep. Maxine Waters - she of “Impeach 45!” fame - blamed (who else?) President Trump before asking, “Why all of a sudden do we have people unable to study while black, unable to mow a lawn while black, unable to have a picnic while black, and being attacked?” (All the while, Crazy Maxine still manages to spend decades-in-Congress-while- stupid, but I digress.)

Nancy Pelosi tweeted, “The racist, homophobic attack on [Smollett] is an affront to our humanity. No one should be attacked for who they are or whom they love.” Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker called it an “attempted modern-day lynching,” and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez described it as a “racist and homophobic attack.”

Aside from what would typically be considered “right-wing” sources which were doubtless criticized for daring to express skepticism, there was no doubting Smollett’s tale of woe. Consider this media montage, or this New York Times’ tweet of the original story: “Jussie Smollett, one of the stars of the television show ‘Empire,’ was attacked in Chicago by 2 assailants who yelled racial and homophobic slurs. The incident is being investigated as ‘a possible hate crime,’ according to the police.”

No “allegedly.” No room for nuance. No typical journalistic practice that should surround the coverage of a pre-courtroom judged crime. “Lord Smollett” declared it, and so it must have been so, they reasoned. Why would anyone lie about something like that?

Except, they do, all … the … freaking … time.

Like when Muslim college student Yasmin Seweid claimed she was harassed on a train by white Trump supporters who tried to rip off her hijab and called her a terrorist. Turns out, Seweid made it all up to get out of trouble with her parents. Or when William Tucker, a black man, was charged with criminal mischief for vandalizing a vehicle with the words “Black Bitches” and “Trump rules.” Or that time a female Bowling Green State University student made up a story about three white Trump supporters shouting profanities and throwing rocks at her. Or when a University of Louisiana student lied about two men - one in a Trump hat - attacking her, robbing her, and trying to take off her hijab. Or the “non-white” student who wrote “White Lives Matter” and another racial slur on a Missouri high school bathroom mirror ...

Oh, and remember Covington, just last month, when MAGA-hat wearing teenaged smirkers were going to goose-step their way back to some macabre combination of 1950’s America and The Handmaid’s Tale? Yeah, the reality behind all that didn’t quite align with the desired liberal narrative, so much so that even many on the political right were compelled to apologize for jumping to conclusions.

I could go on and on, of course. Such hate crime hoaxes could literally fill the pages of a pretty good sized book. It’s gotten to where when I read about a noose planted somewhere, or racist graffiti, or some nebulous “attack” by white Trump supporters, I automatically assume “hoax” instead of believing the story, and I guarantee I’m far from alone. It’s the sad but true reality of the world we’re living in.

Yes, tragically, there are genuine hate crimes against minorities in this country, like the Pittsburgh synagogue and Charleston church shootings. But these sorts of crimes thankfully aren’t nearly as common as those on the left would have us believe. And of course, the left has more than its share of hateful violence as well, although none of those get quite the attention.

Either way, perhaps journalists, pundits, and assorted Twitter blue checks should consider at least waiting for the verifiable facts before they commence the moral preening. If Jussie Smollett taught us anything, he taught us that.
