Obama's Goat Rodeo

Alright partners, get ready to cowboy up and climb in the chute as we get ready for the next go-round in the Obama Goat Rodeo. Coming out of Gate Number One, let’s have a big rodeo welcome for an old veteran,  a vicious critter by the name of “Let’s Screw Coal”

Yep pards, in order to divert attention from the NSA, IRS, a foreign policy that is DOA,  dying union support, a health care policy that resembles a plate of dried spaghetti and a non-existent immigration policy, the old cowhand from Chicago reverted to an oldie but goodie on Tuesday: Saving the environment. It’s obvious and its clumsy, but it makes sense. After all even that rebound by the GDP a week or so ago was not enough get the confetti to drop and the Administration has about as much credibility as that picture of the dogs playing poker would have hanging in the Louvre. So naturally he turns to his base and announces a war on coal fired emissions that should significantly boost his popularity with everyone who wants to control your life.

In Tuesday’s Green Kabuki presentation, the President said that the U.S. needs to lead the coordinated attack on climate change. So I guess that means putting people out of work and driving up the cost of energy.

If the president wants to attack someone on climate change, why attack Americans? China has a far worse emissions problem than we do. Where are the craggy voices of crusty 60’s holdovers demanding sanctions against China? Anyone? Anyone? Are those crickets I hear? It does not surprise me the environmental lobby is loathe to speak out on China. Unless you count bellyaching and filing lawsuits, your average juvenile detention work crew picking up trash by the side of the road does more for the environment than any given coven of one percenter Gaia worshippers, who, content with their own pensions and McMansions in the sky will be dammed if any of the proletariat tries to will a living off the land. Or on it.

Actually, emissions are down in the U.S., due not to the Administration’s shell game of an energy program, but because of natural gas. And natural gas production has nothing to with the Administration. It’s happening on private land out of reach of the long arm of the green law. For now. Of course, you also have these town asserting their rights to throw the energy industry out based on the outrageous science fiction about drilling, while denying an individual a right to own a firearm.

Aside from that, climate change apparently is not happening. In a story released this week on CNS News, climate scientist Hans von Storch told Speigel Online that even though we’ve been warned repeatedly that any day now we would all boil off into the atmosphere, temperature data for the last decade and a half show that temp- wise, we’ve seen an increase of about 0.06 percent. Or less.

But what about severe weather? Surely anthropogenic causes have brought about an environmental apocalypse, right?

I pinged the Institute for Energy Research to see what their response to this CO2 jihad was. I got back some interesting information. Despite what the Chicken Littles of the media would have you believe, that just isn’t so.

Flooding in the U.S. and for that matter the world has not increased in the last half century. Don’t believe me, see what the IPPC SREX has to say:

“There is limited to medium evidence available to assess climate-driven observed changes in the magnitude and frequency of floods at regional scales because the available instrumental records of floods at gauge stations are limited in space and time, and because of confounding effects of changes in land use and engineering. Furthermore, there is low agreement in this evidence, and thus overall low confidence at the global scale regarding even the sign of these changes.”

Similarly, there have been no marked increases in hurricanes, tornadoes, or winter storms. I’d cite you chapter and verse on all of these but we’d be here all day. So drop me an email and I’ll be happy to forward them to you.

The there is the asthma issue. All of these emissions will cause asthma in unforeseen numbers. Except CO2 doesn’t cause asthma. According to the National Institute of Health, asthma is probably caused by:

An inherited tendency to develop allergies, called atopy (AT-o-pe)

Parents who have asthma

Certain respiratory infections during childhood

Contact with some airborne allergens or exposure to some viral infections in infancy or in early childhood when the immune system is developing

Now of course Obama’s friends in the green energy industry will benefit from this, so look forward to more Fiskers and Solyndras using your tax dollars for toilet paper.

Simply put, this latest ex cathedra statement has nothing to do with saving the planet and everything to do with diverting your attention from a group of people who aren’t qualified to run a lemonade stand, let alone a country. That and to remind people like you that you just aren’t smart enough, elite enough or liberal enough  to make your own decisions and manage your own lives.

It’s a goat rodeo alright,. The only problem is that the goats are us.

Thanks to the Institute for Energy Research for providing some of the data for this column.
