Since elected to represent Colorado’s fourth congressional district in 2008, Betsy Markey has supported a costly trillion-dollar stimulus, a national energy tax and a job-killing healthcare bill. After voting with her liberal party bosses nearly 95 percent of the time, it’s no wonder that Markey is already considered to be a one-term wonder. And after her flip-flop to support a government takeover of healthcare, she was quickly branded as the next Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, in reference to the one-term Democrat who lost her seat for supporting Clinton’s 1993 economic plan.
Her liberal voting record is completely out-of-touch with her conservative electorate. Colorado’s fourth congressional district is located in the eastern part of the state and includes almost all of High Plains and the quickly developing cities of Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland and Longmont. The historically Republican district was held by Republicans for 15 years prior to Markey’s election. In 2008, the district voted for John McCain with 50 percent of the vote and in 2004, voted for George W. Bush with 58 percent.
From day one, Markey has recklessly put her political career on the line in this conservative district. But after witnessing Markey repeatedly give the green-light to her party’s reckless agenda of higher taxes, more government and less jobs, State Representative Cory Gardner stepped up to the plate to fight for Colorado middle-class families.
As a leading voice in the State House, Gardner has been a constant advocate for limited government and common-sense principles. Gardner currently represents Colorado’s 63rd Assembly District, where he has made economic development, healthcare and education his top priorities. His leadership has earned him numerous awards such as the 2009 Guardian of the Taxpayer Award from the Colorado Union of Taxpayers and legislator of the year by the Colorado Livestock Association.
Since his decision to run, Gardner has raised some serious cash – setting records in the district by raising $273,000 in the first quarter of the year, which brings him to a total of $864,000. His ability to develop a sizeable grassroots network, his popularity with constituents and his public service record have earned him numerous endorsements and national praise by pundits, analysts and media.
Facing an incredibly accomplished and well-liked opponent like Cory Gardner and repeatedly putting her party’s radical agenda before her conservative constituents, Betsy Markey-Mezvinsky’s fate is undoubtedly sealed as a one-term wonder come November.
