DNC PR Firm – MSNBC

On last evening's edition of "The Last Word," Lawrence O'Donnell invited Rachel Maddow to come on and discuss the indictment of Donald Trump. Today's release of the charges looks rather damning, but before knowing the contents, the duo was seemingly perfectly comfortable with the concept that this indictment was being enforced from a strictly political foundation.

As the pair of pundits discussed things, they not only brought up the possibility of this being handed down on the basis of Trump being in the presidential race, but they both appeared to support this idea.

Maddow posits that the DOJ could possibly drop charges if Trump backed out of the race, and Larry thinks this is a swell idea, so long as the suggestion comes from the Trump team and exonerates the officials from appearing political in the process:

MADDOW: Do they consider - as part of a potential plea offer - something that would…proscribe him from running for office again?

O’DONNELL: I would imagine if any like that happens that it would have to come from the defense side of the negotiations. That the Trump team would say, ‘Oh, by the way, with this we would also drop out of the race for the presidency. Otherwise, it would put the Justice Department in this position that Donald Trump claims they’re in. Donald Trump claims they’re trying to stop him - simply trying to stop him - from becoming president again, and that’s the only reason they’re doing this.

Reporting on the Mirror – MSNBC

  • Was this really all of the experts you could find this morning?!

Not to imply that MSNBC is in a positively euphoric state with the prospect of a Trump indictment, we would prefer to just show you.

Have you ever noted during a Super Bowl or other sports championship telecast that a network will put up a table of six or even seven analysts to discuss the game? It is overkill, unneeded, and rarely leads to crucial commentary. And – it is something the producers at MSNBC are unaware of, based on the fact that for indictment coverage on "Morning Joe," they collocated no fewer than ten ratchet jaws to comment on what this all means.

Low Octane Gas Lighting – CNN

  • "Buy electric cars to fight racism" is not the sales pitch you think it is.

Former sports anchor turned climate expert, CNN's Bill Weir has a rather curious approach in his report to promoting electric vehicles. For one curiosity, he brings up the smoke from the Canadian wildfires as an argument – huh?!

He tries to sell the concept that air pollution affects POC communities more, so driving electric would…end racism, we guess?

But he also decries the polluting power grid without explaining how he intends to operate his new EVs.

News Avoidance Syndrome – VARIOUS OUTLETS

Aaron Mate has another documents release from inside of Twitter, and the disturbing details might be exceeded by the lack of any discernable interest in our journalism community. This batch of Twitter Files reveals that the SBU – the Ukrainian Secret Service – reached out to our FBI to work on silencing accounts that were not in support of that nation's war effort. In response, the FBI did the bidding of the SBU and went to Twitter with the command to take down the accounts in question, as well as collect personal information:

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has aided a Ukrainian intelligence effort to censor social media users and obtain their personal information, leaked emails reveal. In March 2022, an FBI Special Agent sent Twitter a list of accounts on behalf of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Ukraine’s main intelligence agency. The accounts, the FBI wrote, “are suspected by the SBU in spreading fear and disinformation.” In an attached memo, the SBU asked Twitter to remove the accounts and hand over their user data.

Glossary Over Things – ASSOCIATED PRESS

  • Your complete speaking guide for Pride Month.

The AP has another update to their style guide for journalists regarding the recent upheaval in the LGBT𝜋 community and Pride Month, this one entitled their "Transgender Coverage Topical Guide." This is nothing if not comprehensive, as they go through details under a number of subheadings on the matter of proper trans talk:

  • Terminology and Red Flags
  • Gender Transitions and Gender-affirming Care
  • Pronouns
  • Deadnaming
  • Covering Transgender People In Sports
  • Additional Guidance on Gender, Sex and Sexual Orientation Terminology

(Under which there is an exhaustive list of terms and directions on the use.)

You can guess there are a number of perplexing dictates. For instance, they instruct against using terms like Biological Male as those are used by opponents of transgender rights. But also, "They are also redundant because sex is inherently biological." So accuracy be damned, do not use the terms from the bad guys!

Then in a list of suggested terminology, one of their suggestions ends up being said to not be used. "SOGIIncreasingly popular shorthand for the concept of sexual orientation and gender identity. Avoid using the acronym unless necessary."
