For years, I've had to listen to the Left scream about how Israel, in defending itself against the Islamic terrorists that would wipe it out, is committing a "genocide" against the Palestinian people. By all definitions of the word, they're not, of course. Hamas—elected by the people to represent Gaza, mind you—started this war and now they're screaming "genocide" because they're getting wiped off the face of the planet.

What we won't hear, however, is the Left say a word about this latest Thanos-esque proposal to halve the world's population by 2200 to "save the planet."

If you don't know who Thanos is, he was the primary enemy in Marvel's "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame" films. Thanos believed there were just too many people in the universe and sought to "restore" balance by snapping his fingers and erasing half of them from existence. He wasn't the good guy, even if environmentalists now seem to think he was.

While it might not be a palatable option, multiple groups of researchers now believe that this is absolutely essential to prevent the planet's finite resources from being totally overwhelmed.

The researchers say: 'Gently ending and reversing population growth and moderating per capita impacts is a pro–nature and pro–human strategy.

'It will ease pressure on natural resources, lessen poverty in high fertility regions by way of smaller family sizes, reduce pollution, reduce resource and immigration conflicts, and improve quality of life in densely populated areas.'

Unlike some population control strategies, such as China's disastrous 'one child policy', the researchers insist that this could be achieved without force or coercion.

Instead, they argue that empowering women to choose how many children they have will cause fertility to fall back towards or below the replacement rate.

More than 20 years ago, I was part of a message board on The Knot, a wedding website, because I was getting married in a few weeks. That was around the time Michelle Duggar had her 15th child, and the message board lit up with women condemning Duggar and saying women shouldn't be "allowed" to have that many children, even citing China as a good example of how to control this. When I stood up for her right to have children, I was told I should be forcibly "spayed" too because I'd be a "mindless breeder." As it is, I already have three children and exceed the average birth rate for American women, which is roughly 1.79. My point is that the mentality is already ingrained in our culture, and years of anti-natalist rhetoric rooted largely in environmental concerns have made that, if anything, worse.

Take, for example, this Reddit post from an anti-natalist who was so upset his sister was pregnant he told her, at her pregnancy announcement, that she should have an abortion.

"I've explained my views to her countless times over the years. She always told me that life has never been perfect and that people have always had children despite wars, recessions, and uncertainty. We simply never agreed," the post read. "When she told me she was pregnant, everyone was congratulating her. Instead, I asked if she was absolutely sure she wanted to go through with it. I told her that if she truly loved her future child, then the kindest thing she could do for them was not to bring them into a world full of suffering and uncertainty. I said that, in my opinion, not being born would spare them from pain they never asked for."

He then wondered why his sister stopped talking to him. I, personally, hope she got a restraining order, because according to the subreddit mods, the poster asked how he could poison his own sister to induce an abortion.

What happens when women—especially women in Third World nations or Islamic nations—politely decline not to do this? The only solution, of course, is force. And the force would be unequally applied. It would be "racist" and "Islamophobic" to tell Muslim women not to reproduce, of course.

Women like me, and our children's children, on the other hand, would be lined up for forced sterilizations, mandatory abortions, and compulsory birth control under threat of imprisonment. If we have men willing to poison their own sisters to kill their unborn niece (or nephew), don't you think that these same people would be on board with doing the same to total strangers?

This is yet another slippery slope, and I can see the consequences coming from a mile away, so the time to stop going down this path is now.
