In 2008 the Choice is between Socialism Lite and Socialism Lighter

Re Reagan's Mistake

I share your views regarding Ronald Reagan.

I will vote for Ron Paul if he is nominated (and maybe even if he is not.)

However, in a race between Clinton vs. Giuliani(or Fred, Mitt,or Huck) Let's consider this: If Clinton is President, will the Republicans in Congress block her attempts to socialize medicine? They did well in 1993 or so stopping HillaryCare. With Giuliani in office will Republican and Giuliani be eager to buy votes by socializing medicine, as Bush did with Part Whatever Drugs and seniors (the AARP)? I think that is a likely outcome.

Put as simply as this: If Gore had beaten Bush in 2000, it is pretty clear to me that the federal government would be smaller today then it is under Bush.

I am afraid that the march to big government has been accomplished under Republican rule -- and this means (to me at least) that if Paul does not get the nomination, then I see little value in spending time to help Giuliani, Fred, or Romney et al. become the next big govt Republican President. And worse yet, electing a Republican President in 2008 may be a vote for even bigger govt than electing Hillary or even Edwards.
