Steve,

Thanks again for being the force behind Sarah Palin's possible VP nom. Wanted to ask you though should I look at you at this page or your old one, in the future?

Christopher & Sarah, 2 Good People

Christoper, this link is the one that's still operative: http://camp2008victoryA.townhall.com. The other site still exists but I can't add anything to it for some technical reason.

I have a "mirror" site at http://camp2008victoryA.blogspot.com, but it just mimicks this one, so stay with Townhall until further notice.

Keep the faith. Sarah is one of the people (you may be another) that will help restore the Republican Party to a place of prominence.

steve

Thanks for supporting Sarah.

Steve,

The Secretary of Homeland Security said today on the Medved show that this immigration bill should be a Republican's dream...but for some reason the Right is having a hard time saying "yes".

And I thought of another thing...if the absolutists are absolutely certain that Congress will NOT do as they promised in this bill, then why are they up in arms? I mean, doing nothing means that they aren't going to give the illegals "amnesty" either right?

Or are they selective in what part of the bill they believe?

Sanity, Amen

Sanity: I agree with Chertoff. This is the best bill we're ever going to get, and it's basically a good one. I really believe the hatred toward the bill has more to do with human psychology than with politics, reason, or anything that it's possible to grasp.

Sanity, you've found the development extremely disturbing, and so have I. Maybe it's a good thing, but I've had to re-examine a lot of my thoughts and allegiances, which has been difficult.

I've always regarded Bill Bennett as basically a good guy, even if he's mainly self-serving. The other day when I saw him on CNN, defending the absolutists, sweating, stammering, and just generally looking very uncomfortable at having to spread anti-immigrant nonsense, it was disturbing.

On the law: many years ago, the Georgia Supreme Court ruled on the state's "anti-sodomy laws," which were directed against gays. The Court said the laws were constitutional -- BUT that they had to be enforced equally, that is, on both straights and gays.

What happened? The laws were NEVER again enforced in the state, either against gays or straights. What else would one have imagined would happen?

The law now basically says, "If you can't feed your family and an't find a job, and you then cross the border, you have broken the law!" Frankly, there's something creepy about that statement. In the same circumstances, who wouldn't cross the border? Wouldn't it be immoral NOT to do so?

I realize your absolutists are not going to ask those questions, let alone answer them.

That's why I am totally impatient with immigration opponents. They just haven't looked at the immigration issue in any sort of decent (okay, Judeo-Christian) way. If we as a people detach ourselves from that religious/moral tradition, we become capable of all sorts of evil things.

I don't want 12 million illegals in the shadows. It's bad for them, and it's bad for the rest of us. The proposed legislation would help greatly in overcoming the situation.

I don't even know many Hispanics. But I do know that they're no less human than I am, and I want them treated in that light. I am an American by accident of birth, not through some grand behavior on my part. They are my neighbors as outlined in the Bible.
