Obama has embraced American Exceptionalism. But please realize what is implied in declaring one's self as exceptional. That declaration implies that there are unter menschen to deal with.

Reagan doubtfully could see any implication let alone the one stated above. His administration saw an increase in American terrorism especially in Central America so when we examine America by deeds rather than self-flattering declarations, America was hardly the city on the hill. We could add that both in the OT and NT, being declared exceptional is not a self-employed job.
