Swine Flu Is Coming

Many of the 1918 flu pandemic deaths were caused by secondary strep infections and there were no antibiotics available then as there are now. As far as pouring millions of dollars into funding the flu vaccine for third world countries...News Flash...our country is broke! Mr. Crawford - please do not fall prey to the H1N1 hysteria! Also, do the research on the flu vaccine itself and its side-effects before scaring your readers into getting the vaccine out of fear.

I've done some research on the vaccines and there are side effects (as all vaccines have) but nothing to warrant holding my children from getting shots in school for starters.

While the secondary infecions are always a factor there was an underlying series of reasons why the 1918 virus was so much greater a problem with them.

I'm really having trouble understanding how you could read my blog entry here and interpret that as some sort of "hysteria".

I think the fact that you are ready to fork over U.S. tax dollars around the world for flu purposes strikes a note of fear to me. People tend to think vaccines are the cure-all and often times disregard the cumulative effects, especially in children. I bet you never had a flu shot growing up, but instead let your immune system fight for you. I am not anti-vaccine, but the amount of vaccinations given now to newborns, the young, the elderly, and all ages in-between, including pregnant women, is concerning.

Your points on over-vaccination and on our limits on foriegn aid are both lgitimate questions. And the fact that I may disagree in part with your premises is first "hysteria" and now "fear". I have an idea on where your vocabulary applies now. Thanks.

As parents, we must control what is injected directly into our children's bodies and not sign for and accept every vaccination "required" for our children. I so regret not doing this with the "required" Hepatitis B series (3 shots) injected into my kids...at least they were older and did not begin this series as newborn babies before they even left the hospital, as occurs now. Watching a loved one die from complications of Parkinson's Disease, knowing that this individual faithfully got his flu shot every year, has alerted me to the scientific studies of brain diseases related to vaccinations. (hyper-stimulation of the immune system, coupled with mercury and aluminum contained in many injections) Again, I am not anti-vaccine or against drug companies, but I do believe we must control what vaccines are injected into our children's and our own bodies.
