That's what I tell my wife when I've hit a nerve by saying something true that she's extremely defensive about.

But I shouldn't strive to "hit nerves." Not good for a marriage and not good for growth in a spiritual sense.

Rather, my goal is to invite others to be more empathetic and less narrow in their perspective. As an old friend in Alcoholics Anonymous used to say, "You need to be able to walk, so to speak, in the other guy's moccasins."

I believe this ought to apply to our relations with Arabs and Muslims.

By the way, I love Israel. Perhaps, more concretely and accurately, I love many, many Jewish friends, writers, historical personages, e.g., the great Rabin, whose death-anniversary recently passed by. I remember exactly where I was and where I was going the moment I heard about his mindless death.
