I am Hawaiian and have lived on Oahu since birth. The post by "chewie" refers to white people in Hawaii as "hauoli" which means "happy" in the Hawaiian Language which proves he/she doesn't know very much about Hawaii. The fact is African Americans are a great minority in Hawaii. I grew up on Oahu and never knew one African American person. I saw a few around the military base communities but Obama went to Punahou School, the most expensive school in Hawaii at $17,000+ per year tuition, in Manoa, one of the most affluent neighborhoods on Oahu. and there is no way he could identify with or experience what it means to be an African American attending a school founded by and majority attendees being wealthy white missionaries and their children. There are many minority races here in Hawaii, including Hawaiians, and it is true that all races get along with each other quite well in general. But Obama grew up white and wealthy, no doubt.

his granny was white (and rich), momma was white (and a globetrotting welfare recipient), never knew his black daddy. makes that 2 - 1 a white environment.
if you need science - 8 hours sleep, 4 hours for family stuff would make that 50% time a day spent in a white environment.
