Mr. Nofziger

Great quotes indeed Boomer911. I have always struggled with the dynamic between society and government, my fundamental question is where does one stop and the other begin. "...society, before government, has a duty to take care of its own..." For an example, lets assume you are an expert in corrections and law enforcement. Our Government locks criminals up and puts them in prison with varying degrees of lengths and conditions. Society will ultimately have to deal with this population of repeat, revolving door offenders that are not being "corrected". We practice that society needs to take care of this "problem", which the government has only perpetuated and made worse in many reguards. This is a challange that I find most important and with great interest in our futures success.

It is my contention that society sets the course in which government will follow. If society has abandoned its moral compass, then expect the government to follow suit. This was evidenced by the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal. Society refused to condemn a sitting president for his actions. In fact, many defended his actions as being private and not the business of the public. A great percentage of the American public did not have the moral courage to critically judge his actions based on moral relativism. To liberals, everything is relative.
