Take My Idol . . . Please

Idolatry

I agree that a reality show can very rapidly and boisterously vault inexperienced, talentless, uneducated, unethical and undeserving backwoods rednecks to stardom. For the most spectacular of all reality television celebrity creations, look no further than the 2008 Republican Presidential Campaign! The Convention was the number one reality show of all time with the single most successful contestant, Sarah Palin! And, in the spinoffs that followed, Joe the Plumber achieved a remarkable level of stardom, despite having no claim to fame other than a plumbing business that allegedly nets a quarter million a year.

I understand that after two successful efforts, American Idol will not be doing the charity event, "Idol Gives Back" this year. I assume they figure no one has money to give to poor third world countries. Maybe instead of giving to other countries, they could host a production to benefit American billionaires on the verge of dropping to lowly millionaire status. This would have the added benefit of lessening Congress' workload, since the lucky recipients could drop out of the bailout lottery. It would certainly be interesting to see if Americans would willingly call in to give their money to billion dollar corporations.
