What conservatives don't understand

How do you explain

the Reagan landslide and the GOP takeover in the mid-90's?

I don't think being principled and trying to influence people for the best is "foolish consistency". Bending over and taking it is a "foolish consistency". Going with the flow, instead of showing leadership and setting good examples to the mods is why the GOP is sinking, friend.

Independents and other mods are by definition, wishy washy, which means they can be persuaded by a good argument. The Dem/libs, the Dinosaur Media, some GOPers, and RINOs like yourself have wrought this doom.

@ScarletPimpernil

===Scarlet Pimpernel, what a nice literary work for a nick name! My compliments!
As to your thoughtful post:

"How do you explain
the Reagan landslide and the GOP takeover in the mid-90's? "

===First Reagan win: Jimmy Carter's disastrous failure in the Iran hostage rescue attempt. Had Carter's rescue attempt succeeded, he may well have been hailed as a hero by enough voters to reelect him. We will never know of course. But because of that ridiculous fiasco, he was seen as a nice but totally incompetent and feckless President.

That made it really easy for Reagan.

Second Reagan win. This one is even easier to explain: Walter Mondale's "San Francisco Democrats".

There were a group of male transvestites outside the cow palace convention hall demonstrating for "gay rights", they called themselves the "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence". This was shown on national TV right after Mondale came out for "Gay Rights".

Then, Mondale selected (to many observers) a "mannish looking" woman to be Vice President, making him look weak and out of control among a lot of wild, and out of control freaks and feminists.

Then once in the conventional hall, the fool sealed his fate forever with no help from Reagan when he suicidally promised in his acceptance speech to raise taxes.

"Now tell me truthfully, What serious Republican "rino" could not have also easily defeated Mondale???

to be continued

==SP, Neither do i. I totally agree with you on that==

"leadership and setting good examples to the mods is why the GOP is sinking, friend."

==SP, I believe the party is sinking because of the disillusionment among Christian Conservatives with all these gay repub scandals, and philandering republicans who got caught in disgraceful immoral situations: Like for instance, Larry "wide stance" Craig, family values advocate, Rep. Mark Foley, Rev. Ted Haggard, and then the Republican Senator from Louisiana (forget his disgraced name)who got caught wearing diapers with a hooker, and then the GOP legislators on the DC Madam's list, and the list goes on-sadly for us Christian Conservatives, and oh yeah, there were some other ethics violations not having to do with sex which were just as bad. |

Plus, the President has ignored Christian conservatives after asking for our votes, and has demoralized the forgotten Christian conservatives.==

"Independents and other mods are by definition, wishy washy,"

==SP, where on earth did you get that definition? Many moderates, as well as moderate conservatives, are very consistent and not at all wish washy in their beliefs or actions.==

"which means they can be persuaded by a good argument."

===SP, All reasonable people should be open to recognizing and then willing to accept at least parts of "a good argument". If they can't be persuaded by a good argument, then it was probably not "a good argument" in the first place
SP, Thanks for your input and observations, they are really appreciated! Come back again, anytime. and email me sometime, if you would like to talk more in depth. My best, Harry.==

Hey, Cornpone:)

I already know why Reagan won. It was a rhetorical question which I think refutes your post about idealism not appealing to most Americans. Reagan was very idealistic and conservative and he wasted the opposition. This is the opposite of what you think according to this post.

As for Christian Conservatives - I am one and I could care less about the perverts in regards to an election. I realize that every now and then one will be brought into the light. I want them out of the party for sure and I would not vote for one. But that had no impact on how I voted last time and I certainly hope that it didn't make others stay home. Maybe it did. I respect that if that is the case. But I figured it would only affect that particular pervert and his office.

btw- my wife and I use the term "cornpone" in an affectionate manner when speaking of things Southern or Mountain. I like it.
