Ike was a communist!

JFK was no Democrat

I hate to break even more bad news on you komrad.JFK was not liberal by todays standards on a single issue,so I do take offense at you suggesting these communists in power now are related to Camelot.When John F.Kennedy first came to public office,he worked with a young member of the House of Representatives from California named Nixon.They co-chaired a much more aggressive anti-communist movement in the House called HUAC.Maybe you have heard of it?Liberal love to blame a Senator for the Hollywood outings of communists,but it's pretty hard for McCarthy to be a Senator and Representative too.Jfk was also very anti welfare state.He wanted a remporary safety net with definite time frames to guide people back to self esteem and help the country.Remember "Ask not what your country can do for you "speach?And as you so rightly pointed out ,he cut taxes across the board,but specially for the rich.As a matter of policy,you could overlay his platform over Reagans and the would be twins.That is why JFK republicans are the same people as the Reagan Democrats.As for Ike,he was working with a Democrat controlled House and Senate,as well as an economy that was so good economists feared deflation would set in.Before Ike 30% of people owned their own homes-after the number was 65%.The post war baby boomers were putting a strain on family budgets that the country did not anticipate.Just like the SSI people didn't.We manufactured 80% of the goods sold in the world after the war until the union wages forced companies to go to Japan.Sound familiar?

@JFK was no Democrat

Funny, you bring it up. I have argued that Obama is an Eisenhower Republican - as is Hillary. Remember all the resentment of the Taft wing of the Republican party against the me-too-ism of the Eisenhower people?
And yes, JFK - although mostly due to his sorry health at the time - was the one Democratic Senator not voting for the censure of Joe McCarthy.
Now, I haven´t heard neither read that Obama wants to roll back the Clinton welfare "reform", and what he writes about that "commie" work of community organizing sounds a lot like "Ask not what your country can do for you!" speech to me.
The suggestion to empower people and their community to help themselves rather than just throwing money after every social ill to me is far closer to libertarian positions than the classic and definitely disproven liberal position of an LBJ. That's not to deny that Obama doesn't think that government has a role to play, but so did the Eisenhower Repubs.
So far, all I can see is that Obama is throwing most of the money after failed capitalists just to save the capitalist system. He says so, and I have no reason to not accept that as his position. Incidentally, your socialist parties criticize himfor that (see my previous post). The Geithner plan is a case in point. And why does he do so? Because all these people (banks, Detroit) have become so big that letting them fail would wreak havock on all of us for quite some time. It might be unavoidable, anyway,
and while Obama might be wrong, that makes him neither socialist nor communist. My message is, if you call a liberal democrat socialist, communist or Stalinist, what term is left to describe the real thing?
May I relate you to my bio, and commend you for proving my last point there?
But I doubt you really "hate to break even more bad news". Komrad's greetings to a JFK Republican!
