The UAW has already made more concessions whose value is greater than the money being requested for in the bailouts.
Regarding the rest of your note, the title has been the complaint of those on the left and is the theme of Noam Chomsky's book "Failed States."

great post--I can answer your question in one word--NO. The current congress controlled by the Democrats cares only about their power and control--if it means driving America into the ground to keep their power--so be it.

Actually, the congress does not listen whether they are republican or democratic controlled.

the Republicans in the Senate are listening. I'm amazed by the unexpected, every day. Wow.

Great post, I applaud you for taking the time to write your representatives. I have been trying to do so more often myself lately.
I do know how you feel though, it seems no matter what the constituents express to them the representatives vote entirely too much along party lines and not the way the folks back home would prefer. How can they wonder why their approval rating is so historically low???

But I doubt it will get any further in DC than th 3rd level of bureaucraps. But we ALL need to write these idiots every time they do some stupid.
I normally do not agree with Caday5, but his 12/11/08 comment of 5:51pm is correct. It is up to "We the People" to change that.
