gun control
Apparently you feel gun owners need more training? More needs to be done to weed out crazy people/criminals from acquiring firearms? The same could be said about the news media. It would be nice if we could insure they would at least try to print the truth. Maybe they could be licensed too. Of course we all know where that would lead and it's the same with firearms. The founders knew what they were doing. It would be very dangerous to let the greatest threat to liberty-the government-control all the weapons. The right to defend yourself is THE basic human right--against all threats to life, liberty and property. The right to be armed is the right to be free.

My Dear Red Coat Friend
The entire balance of the universe pivots on this issue of un-infringed gun ownership. You first look at the small picture. Giving the liberals any wiggle room is a step toward doom. The liberals intend to dis-arm us and they will patiently wait and do it one right at a time as it was done in the UK. Although I will grant you it would be much hard here since it is written into our constitution. Giving the government the ability to give a license in essence gives them the power to choose who can own a weapon. First they'll widen who can't have one, then they'll limit who can have one, then it will be that you have to justify why you need one...etc....
Here is the domino effect. Once the liberals control guns. We become a Socialist state. The free world no longer has the protection of the free capitalist beacon that has balanced the world. I may have over simplified it, but there you have it. It's a constant battle to not let the liberals gain an inches they will never give it up. And as for gun control. Look how ell it has worked. Walk the streets of Detroit, D.C., New York City or Boston at night. Why do criminals rob tourist in Florida? Tourist don't carry, Floridians do...

Interesting ramifications
I like the drivers license model. We could call it DMG (Division of My Gun). It could be in the same building as your local DMV. In fact why even make a separate gun license ID card. Your Gun license could be integrated right into you drivers license. This makes sense. Think about it. The automobile probably is the largest cause of deaths. However, we haven't outlawed cars. Because it is the person operating the vehicle that caused the death.

Re Gun Control..
I MUST disagree on a couple of points the main one being that THE RIGHT to bear arms is just that... A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT. Driving, fishing, hunting are all privledges and can be licensed. Once you put any restrictions on a right you deminish that right. Either we have the right to bear arms or we do not. I have never owned a gun but I consider my right to do so if I choose as important as my freedom of Religion and free speech
