Great, Pepp!
Well said.
We have to watch them like hawks, and judge them on a case-by-case basis. For instance, my Congressman, Buck McKeon, is a solid conservative who is absolutely terrific on this issue; as he is on all others, frankly. He'd actually make an almost ideal President, though outside our area he's an unknown name, and doesn't seem to have that ambition anyway.
But as an example, he's a good one. That's what we have to do.
As I just wrote over at Phil's, I vote for the conservatiove, regardless of what party initial follows his name. No conservative to vote for? Great! I'll take the day off!
That's why in a race between Hillary and RINO Rudy, I don't vote for either. Lib v. lib. What do I care who wins?

I believe our hope lies in the House of Representatives. They must answer for their actions on a regular basis, and they hear us loud and clear. Steve Chabot is a good man, and I'll work to keep him in office. As to the senate, have you ever considered registering as a Dem to vote in their primary, and kill off their strongest candidate?

All is never lost. Congress and the Senate only listen when their phones and fax lines are swamped by angry voters.
Keep up the pressure. Make them butt steaks listen to reason. Or vote their sorry butts out.

I know I was not the only one in my state to call. They were inundated with calls. And, still they voted for that immigration bill.

Excellent analysis of the sorry state that our country is in because of the actions of the "Swimmer" and his likeminded cronies, from both sides of the aisle. Who do we trust? Good question, fair question. Our President has betrayed us on some issues. We have a bunch of RINOS who pretend to be conservatives until it's voting time on crucial issues that will impact our citizens for years. Is there no hope? This is from an old Bible thumper. Perhaps it's time to get serious and take heed of the Old Testament admonition, 2nd Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

She could not vote for a bill that creates a permanent underclass of an ethnic group. Not that I could vote for that dimmest of bulbs, but I couldn't have improved on her statement. The guest worker program is worse than amnesty and that's the part that the libs object to the most. Ok with me. I find the entire bill objectionable.

To a place near you. Peppermint, good piece. It is not out of mere emotional “reaction” that people are upset and they reacted. Its from love for the country, which apparently now stands between us and self-serving politicos. (How could they love this country doing what they do?) Its bipartisan and there are equal opportunity offenders on both sides.
Dems promote a view its the Republicans, and corrupt corporate and special interest are the offenders. Yet other citizen cynics quote pogo, We’ve seen the enemy, and the enemy is us”. Not quite right. I also remember the sense of evil politicians/politics growing up. Some like the Quakers shunned politics, and many evangelicals did the same. We found nothing got changed or influenced that way.
That's a ridiculous notion, leave it alone and it will leave you alone. Pa saw a midnight vote for pay raises despite people’s will. Sure, there always was rotten politics. Ignoring the bushel did not fix the problem. They have taken it from a representative republic of "we the people" to almost the polar opposite. And they expect us to play along with their agendas. (don’t forget about those.) The "when a long train of abuses” part still matters and is up to us.

You are absolutely right. It is for love of country that people became so indignant over this latest sneaky bill. As I said before the left is outraged too because they don't want jobs to be taken away. They listen to Lou Dobbs on CNN and he has taken this immigration problem by the horns. The lefties listen raptly to him. At least that is what I was told from my lefty co-workers. I found to my amazement that the left was just opposed as those of us on the right. Perhaps, this issue is a blessing in disguise that will help unite more of us.
I'm probably being delusional with that last sentence but who knows.

We can only pray that maybe the sheeple will breakout of their Paris induced hypnosis enough to vote our non-representative government out and replace it with real leaders. The long term result if this doesn't occur is either a socialist 3rd world nation or the American Revolution part 2.

And well written! Like you, I have lost all faith in our present government to preserve our Republic. I don't believe a word any politician says from either party.
You constantly hear people say "I want to know how a candidate stands on the issues." In my opinion the 'issues' mean nothing to them outside of being used as a tool to manipulate the masses. They will lie and say anything required to win a voting block.
The corrupt politicians have been slowly overriding the Constitution in order to establish control through Usurpation. And "We The People" have become an obstacle to overcome.
You can be sure "Amnesty" will be granted to these millions of illegals, one way or the other. The rotten pols need them to dilute our vote.
As Vic said in another column "What we need is another Constitutional Convention." That failing, an all out revolution is our last hope of saving the Republic!

Very good writing, I like your style.
Hope you will permit me one observation.
The word democratic when possessive, as in the Democratic party. The correct form is Democrat or Democrats party. Democratic would refer to their political operations, as in they are a very democratic party. LOL
You and I both know they are not very democratic preferring instead to ramrod their candidates through the primary process leaving us with the choice between the republican who was ram rodded through from above or the Democrat also ram rodded by his party.
That is why yesterday I suggested that no one give money to either party, but only to the local candidate of your choice.
Do not give to the parties, only to your local candidate of choice. That will break the back of the national power centers, and return to the states and districts control over who gets the nomination for any party.

I think Fred Thompson had an opportunity to break out of the mold here right after the immigration bill went down. If he were a smart pol, he would have taken the chance to side with the American people and probably gained a lot of potential voters. I think he made a big mistake on this. He could have said, "let's get that fence up now", like the people want. But, he missed the chance. That doesn't sit well with me. Now, he looks just like the other candidates, shuffling around trying to come up with some resolution for the "illegals" in here, and missing the boat entirely.

LOL! When the RNC recently sent me their letter with their little donation card, I sent it back to them with the following: "No money until the borders are secured". I also wrote "traitors" across the card. Probably a wee bit over the top, but it felt good. And what do I care what they thought.

I think I have a solution to deal with both the high gasoline prices and the illegal alien fiasco. This just might work.
Subject: need a push for your RV??
Just a note to tell you that my mailbox is being
flooded with mail concerning gas prices and illegal immigrants.
To boycott oil companies or not; to provide amnesty to illegal immigrants or not, etc.
Since I have become jaded to the various solutions
proposed by the Republicans, Democrats, Sierra Club, ACLU, etc., I have elected to solve the problems as they affect me.
My response solves both my gas and illegal immigrant problems.....
I have hired illegal immigrants to push my car.
They're plentiful and cheaper than buying gas. Then I pay them in Pesos so they have to go
home to spend it.
Don't you love it when a plan comes together?

Paul Gillmor (I live in the 5th District). Here's an excerpt from a May 2007 Washington Post story to give you a flavor of what's being flung around....
"Rep. Paul Gillmor (R-Ohio) has a nifty new 3,751-square-foot, four-bedroom house in suburban Columbus, Ohio, next to a golf course designed by the great Arnold Palmer.
The $1 million house has some unusual characteristics. It's not in his congressional district, but sits about 90 minutes away from the condo that he uses as his official residence.
Even more curious is that Gillmor's name appears nowhere on the property records. The Toledo Blade, after some fine digging by reporter Joshua Boak, found that the owner is Zenith Holding & Trading Corp.
That, in turn, is a subsidiary of a Columbus law and lobbying firm -- Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease -- whose PAC has contributed $6,500 to Gillmor's campaigns since 1997.
The firm sent the paper a letter saying that Zenith has the property in trust "at the request of, and for the benefit of" Gillmor, who paid the mortgage and taxes."
...and so on.....

I just read Mike Pence's article on what he believes would be a better bill. It starts off with securing the border first. That's all we want, is our borders secured. For goodness sake, what other country would allow this, people running across their borders with no idea who they are.
It is truly an enigma that the president of this country would allow this to go on during this time in our history and facing the greatest threat we have ever faced with Islamic terrorists. And, he won't secure the borders.

My son has a friend in the Ntl. Guard who is down on the border and he said since this Z card or whatever it is presented in this bill, there has been a huge increase in people coming across the border to get in on the "amnesty".
They will continue to do so until they know we aren't going to give them amnesty and allow law breakers to become citizens. We all know none of these people are going to step forward and pay any fines. Like why bother?

There is nothing to support in this bill because it has all to do with giving Mexico gifts. Nothing in this for us but more taxes to be paid.
He cuts taxes giving us all a break, then wants all these illegals in here who are going to cost us an arm and leg. Doesn't make sense. I guess he wants businesses to get the breaks in paying wages. I don't believe for one minute that anyone would be cracking down on the employers hiring illegals.

the fact that the populace doesn't have the firepower to actually have a revolt without the help of major military units is a sad commentary on how far we've come from the ideals of the Founding Fathers. Remember that Jefferson said "a little revolt from time to time is a good thing." or sumthin to that effect. That was part of the reasoning behind the First Amendment. The government needed to know that the population wouldn't abide by tyrannical government.
If, on the other hand, the military sat it out or sided with the Constitutionalists... Remember that our oaths aren't to the government. They are to uphold and defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign AND domestic. We also pledge to obey the LAWFUL orders of those over us, but the Uniform Code of Military Justice requires us to disobey unlawful orders.

At the risk of being called a racist and a bigot, which I don't give a rats rear end about, I'm developing a very narrow mind set about

1. Appropriate the funds for building the fence (legislation passed last year) and get 'er done.
2. Enforce all of the laws that are currently on the books.
3. Sock the employers who are hiring the illegals with heavy fines, which should dry up the job opportunities. With no jobs, most will have to go home.
4. Do NOT issue "Z" visas under any circumstances.
5. Do NOT set up a "Road to citizenship" program. Make the illegals who have permission to stay stand in line behind those who have entered legally.
BTW, I fully approve and accept any citizen from any foreign country who

There are app 250 million privately owned guns in the country, and billions of rounds of ammo. App 130 million households contain guns legally.
The entire military force consists of about 1.5 million active duty total worldwide, and about 1.3 million in reserves and national guard.
The civilian populace VASTLY outnumbers the military both in numbers and weaponry, EVEN ASSUMING you could get the military to cooperate in suppressing a rebellion of their own friends, family, neighbors, etc., which would presuppose all the military personnel would agree to the government's actions.
Mao said "power grows from the barrel of a gun" and he was exactly right, which is why the first -- FIRST -- action of any repressive government is to disarm the civilian populace.

Your examples are misleading. China in 1949, Russia in 1917 and, yes, the colonies in 1776, were all agricultural, highly traditional societies lacking the media saturation of our own society. You're comparing apples and oranges.
Can you point to an example of a technologically sophisticated, media-rich society that has been overthrown by "the people" (rather than a military coup)?

Not to get off topic, but the MA Supreme Court created "legal" (there's that word again) gay marriage out of thin air.
We the people would like to have a vote on that, up or down. Created a petition with (I believe, don't quote me here) nearly 300,000 signatures.
Legislature doesn't want to add it to the ballot.
Think I'm the only one feeling squeezed here?

The Hungarian Revolt in recent history 1956
On October 23, 1956, students and workers gathered around the statue of General Bem in front of the Polish Embassy. The protestors boycotted work and demanded "A Socialist Hungary, truly independent; Imre Nagy reinstated in his former office; the State established on a new economic basis; new leaders for the Party and government; those responsible for mistakes held accountable at a public trial…" (Radio Budapest). Premier Hegedus could not control the revolt. At first, he sent the Secret Police, know as AVO, to stop the rebels. Tear gas was sent into the crowd and many of the students were taken into AVO's custody. When the crowd attempted to free the captive insurgents, the secret police opened fire on men, women, and children as well as the student protestors. The Hungarian Police arrived shortly after that and gave up their weapons to the protesters after hearing of the AVO shooting. The now armed students outnumbered the secret police. Finally, Hegedus called for Soviet assistance and declared Martial Law.
The Soviet armies could not stop the revolt either. Some soldiers were defeated, but many joined the resistance. The soldiers were hopeful of a new system in place of Communism. They draped the new Hungarian flag over their tanks and fought with the people of Hungary.
On October 24th, Nagy was named premier of Hungary in place of Hegedus. Nagy immediately took the students and workers side. On October 27th, Nagy announced that he was forming a new government. Nagy said that he would be the head of the new government and there would be three non-communists in the cabinet. On October 30th, the new government is put into play. Nagy abolished the one-party system, so the new government was a coalition government called The National Peasant Party. It was later renamed The Petofi Party. Nagy also announced that there would be economic reforms and free elections, demanded that the USSR take back their troops, and he withdrew from the Warsaw Pact, making Hungary a neutral nation.
At first, the Soviets seemed to accept the demands of the protesters and took their tanks out of Budapest. The USSR, although withdrawing their troops, did not go all the way back to the Soviet Union like they had promised. On November 3rd, reinforcements arrived on the border to Hungary.
On November 4th, 1956, the Soviet army returned, this time crushing the revolt. Imre Nagy announced the attack over the radio in his famous, and last speech to the Hungarian people: "Soviet troops attacked our capital with the obvious purpose to overthrow the legitimate Hungarian democratic government. Our troops are fighting. The government is in its place."
In addition to Nagy's address, radio signals were broadcasted all over pleading with the Western Powers to "HELP HUNGARY!" Unfortunately, the United States' Containment Policy precluded aiding revolts against communism because Hungary was already communist when the policy was created; The US did not intervene in the Hungarian Revolt.
Many of the soldiers in the second invasion did not even know where they were. Some though that they were in East Germany, and others thought that they were in the Suez Canal Zone. They had no idea that they were crushing a revolt against communism until they came in contact with their forced enemies. To keep the army's intensity up, Generals would execute people that were not carrying out orders. For instance, a tank driver that took a detour to avoid driving over women and children blocking the street was murdered on the spot.
The Soviets took control of the airports and other major buildings. Within a few days, they had put a new government in place, but the revolt was still going strong. The second invasion had actually made the insurgents more determined to beat out Communism. Everyone fought from women to children to the elderly fought the Communist soldiers. They were determined to keep their homeland free.
Eventually, the great numbers of soldiers along with their weapons took control of the entire country. The Revolt was over, but the resistance wouldn't end until Communism was out of Eastern Europe forever.

Hungary continued.....
More than 20,000 Hungarian protestors lay dead. At least 200,000 living rebels fled west, hoping to escape from the Communist system. Others who stayed were arrested and then executed.
Nagy fled to the Yugoslav embassy where he was offered protection from the November 4th invasion. Nagy was on a Yugoslav bus that was taken over by Soviets. This time, Janos Kadar, Nagy's party secretary, replaced Nagy as premier. Moscow offered money and aid to Hungary even though Nagy's statements were taken back. No free elections or economic reforms were made. On June 16, 1958, after being in jail for almost two years, Imre Nagy was secretly tried and executed.
The USSR was still scared of what had happened in Hungary. They sent natural resources into the country to keep the people happy and prevent another revolt. Khrushchev said, "We shall shut their mouths with goulash."
Although many saw the Hungarian Revolt as a loss, it was in truth a victory. The revolution had succeeded until the USSR returned to stomp out the fire of revolt on November 4th. In addition, the "Bloody" Revolt proved to the rest of the satellite countries of the USSR that there was another way to live: free of Communism.

Yo Peppermint
Thank you for the excellent history lesson and reminder of what happened to those brave Hungarians when they tried to resist Communism. My family and I were living in the Washington D. C. suburbs. at the time.
It’s been the tradition in DC at Christmas time to have the National Christmas Tree set up on the Ellipse across from the front of the White House and you have probably seen many Presidents turn on the lights. It was also the tradition (and maybe still is) to have traditional Christmas decorations from a number of other countries set up on the Ellipse also. We went to visit the display in December of 1956. To our dismay and sadness, the Hungarian display consisted of charred wood and other rubble, and a scrawny, bare evergreen tree. What a message!! The illustrious UN as well as Western Powers (USA included) stood by and let those dear brave (women and children included) freedom fighters be run over and slaughtered by Russian tanks. Shame, shame on us. Pepp, as I write this , I’m more & more convinced that we cannot abandon those brave Iraqis who are tasting freedom for the first time. It’s costing this generation dearly to try to maintain that freedom like it has for all of our previous generations who “stepped up” to the plate when called to do so. Freedom is not free. Just go to any National Cemetery and count the white head markers.
I hope that you will have a chance to read that article that I sent you.

The interesting thing is that the discontent is so rampant on BOTH sides of the ideological divide.
Of course, the Founders envisioned the possibility, which is why they made provisions in the Constitution for a Constitutional Convention, in which the entire system can be scrapped and we'd get a do-over.
But, yeah, your "targets" would be different. That, too, is not unknown. South Africa had many different rebel factions with different goals. Mao and Chiang in pre-Communist China. Somalia even until today. Others. Look at Switzerland; it is a truly federal system, with major policies determined at the canton level.

The Catholic school that I attended from 5th grade through HS was run by Hungarian monks, most of whom were refugees from the 1956 Revolt. One of the priests was even an officer in the Hungarian Army until he deserted during the revolt.

I believe our Senators were simply overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of ordinary people (whom the Senators seem to forget they represent)and then could not in good conscience stuff that resurrected "reform" bill down our throats another time.
The fatheads, the knuckleheads, the numbskulls there in the Senate (you know who you are) who wanted to push that monstrosity through thought it would be a piece of cake, that we, the people, would, as you, Peppermint, so aptly described, just roll over and accept what they wanted. Boy, were they in for a surprise.
However, vigilance is required, and we cannot rest, believing the danger is over. As I write, here on June 15, the Senate is in some back room somewhere stirring up some brew that they believe will be camouflaged some way, but will in reality be but a warmed-up version of the same old moldy fare.
Let's not let that happen. Let's keep those cards and letters going. E-mails, faxes, whatever. We need to remind them that it is we, the people, who put them where they are, not some fat-reared lobbyists with money falling willy-nilly out of every opening. Alright, now you're hurting feelings. My new Glock isn't even in my hands yet and I'm already too self-conscious to bring it to the range. That's ok. I've got plenty of cover from the crowd I usually shoot with. Plenty of fancy guns, no one will notice what I'm shooting as I keep re-using the same paper target with the one clean hole in the middle.
About a month ago, a was shooting next to a couple of Mexicans who were firing .44 magnum revolvers. TOO MUCH GUN! I was shooting my .22 rifle at the same targets as they were, about 125 yds away. I was nailing every shot. They were just kicking clouds of dust as they scattered their shots way off target apparently trying to cut the mountain in half. Expensive way to make alot of pointless noise.
I see guys show up with exotic guns but can't hit anything. The coolest guns I usually see are the muzzle loaders. Look like fun but very inaccurate.

Black powder looks like more fun than it is, because of the maintenance/cleanup.
I rarely shoot mine. Mine are all handguns, mostly Navy .36s and Army .44s, and they take too long to load, and you have to go through an extensive cleanup right away.

You're paying 32 cents/round delivered. You are WAY overpaying!
19 cents/round jacketed here:
http://www.outdoormarksman.com/index.php?cPath=65_1_21&sort=2a&filter_id=70
Their home page here for broader selection:

Further, softball is even cheaper that jacketed, and is usually more accurate, too.

You're local here in SoCal. If you want to try out my SA, we can go to the range, if you're not already locked into the Glock.

Thanks Brian. Checked out the link. There are som Federal American Eagles that look comparable to what I bought but for 22-27 cents + shipping so I didn't do TOO bad. I'm assuming the 19-cent ammo you mentioned are the reloads. That voids the warranty too. I don't know anyone who uses reloads except a friend back east who enjoys spending weekends cleaning and reloading. I have better things to do.
I don't have the Glock yet and I can probably cancel it but I'm sure it won't be the last gun I buy.
I usually shoot at the Angeles Gun Range in San Fernando (Moore & Moore for clays and the rifle/handgun range at the entrance). I wouldn't mind trying out other guns. Most of the gang own SAs and would probably use that over a Glock to win a bet but seem to prefer shooting with their Glocks.

The Outdoor Marksman loads at 19 cents are new factory ammo, OM's brand, and having shot a LOT of it, including in competition, I can tell you it's good stuff.
When the gun manufacturer talks about "reloads", they mean home reloads done yourself. OM's "reloads" are considered such because they don't manufacture their own brass with headstamp. I shoot it all the time, in .45ACP, .223 (one of my faves in that cal), .308, 9MM, .45 Long Colt, it is the only brand I use in .45-70, and .44-40.
OM is actually what saves me from spending a ton of time sweating my a$s off in my hot garage at the reloading press; good fresh-load ammo at comparable cost (cheaper, factoring in the value of my own time) to home reloading.
.............................
Shot a lot of matches at Angeles.
If you want to do it, let me know, and we'll establish comms and set it up.

Well Pepp, if we stay with the mob scenario, you'll need a "hangout" like Bada-bing. You know to do the office work:)

That is a great deal. I could have bought 1000 rounds for what I paid for 500. That's why I'm known as the gap-toothed cretin.

On the shooting, let's wait until I get my Glock, should be 2-3 weeks, and let's set something up. My e-mail is on my blog. I usually go on weekday afternoons and my schedule should open up in a couple of weeks. I have a lot of carbon credits to waste.

Sounds like you have quite a collection. Makes me wish I lived in So. CA, no, not really, but it would be fun to try all those guns. My experience is mostly with shotguns (skeet shooting). I've only recently taken up pistols, started out with a .22 target pistol. The range I go to has quite a few rental guns available and I've been trying different ones to get a feel for different calibers and manufacturers. Aesthetics isn't as important to me as feel and function. One thing I like about Glocks is their simplicity. Very smooth action also. The best thing I've tried in a 1911 is the Kimber, although they are pricey. Lifetime warranty also. I've seen the SA stainless on their website, very nice, but a little too flashy for me. I'm a pickup kind of guy, no Porsches in my garage.

But that's OUR secret....
Yeah, I have about 35 or so guns. Every one of them's a shooter; no "wall hangers" for me.

Glad to see it go down in flames
however I feel this one might be like a Phoneix rising from the ashes to test us again. The comments were as always here at Pepps place entertaining, although I got distracted there toward the end with the gun talk, made me want to head out to the range. I did take one of my previous anti-gun co-workers shooting recently, he is from the UK and can't understand the "American obsession with guns" although after leaving the range he wants one now,I guess he will have to wait until he gets his legal documentation. Bradford I am curious which "targets" you would find worthwhile it might come as a surprise that many list of targets from both sides of the spectrum would have similar names on them.

Good to see you here. Have not seen you around lately. You must be very busy with your new endeavor.
Thanks for your comments. The UK people may not understand our obsession with guns until they have to fight the muzzies in their midst. Then they will know why.
