Freedom of Religion vs. Freedom of Speech

Say it as often as you like...

But Freedom Of Religion does not mean that you have Freedom From Religion. You have no God Given, or Government granted Freedom From Being Insulted. People have the Right to Freedom of Speech. What you do have is protection from harrasment. If someone is too pushy talking religion to you, you close the door, if they continue to bother you, call the police and have them escorted away. Outside of that, people have the right of expression, and religious speech, just like political speech, is part of that right of expression.
You have the right to be gay, and you even have the right to talk about how being gay is good for you. You can even try and convince others to grant you other things, like same sex marraiges or what ever you happen to want. You have that ability because freedom of speech grants it, and if you want to take away someone elses right of Religious Speech, I would say take away your right of gay support speech, as well as black's ability to harp about slavery, and Indians right to complain about this being their land, and immigrants right to rally trying to get what ever it is they wanted, and maybe women should have been prevented from rallying for sufferage, and Martin Luther King should have been jailed. Is that really the makings of a free society, or is a free society something that you do not want?

Well-said Allen

I appreciate your input. I agree. Nobody has a right to NOT be offended in this country. The annoying politically correct crowd would have you believe otherwise and they don't mind trampling over freedom of speech to get what they want. Religious speech and free speech are the same thing. The same rules apply. As an atheist, I have been harrassed before by religious zealots. I would not take away their right to say what they please, but when they start really annoying me I draw the line.

Harvey Milk said it best. If you can take away the rights of one individual or one group. Then you can take away the rights of everybody. That is not the spirit of a free society. Freedom comes with all the trappings and for those that don't like it, they should just shut up and give tyranny a try.
