Reparations for Thee, Why Not Me?

Not only do the blacks

never seem to remember that whites have also been enslaved, they also forget that it was their own African brothers who sold them into slavery. Gates & obama have trees on their shoulders. (Chips is a gross understatment). They are invested in racist victimization and an angry sence of entitlement. Reparation my hind foot !! I'm irish and I'm sure there are some slaves in my family tree. How much do you think you and I will get for our abused ancestors?

Good work, Dennis.

Irish reparations

Need to be fast tracked, it's an emergency of the most dire need. I need a new car, a new truck, and a new boat. My trailer is new enough.
Talk about economic stimulus! This would fix it for sure.

Has anyone considered

That if the Irish are given reparations, Hal Donahue will be eligible?!?!?!

I'm only 1/4 Irish, so, I guess, I'll

only get a tiny car, maybe a Yugo.

Dennis

Actually, as a white 70 yr old Christian, I seem to be on the margins of our new Obama American society. I demand monies, fame and fortune for my historical past because after all white Presbyterians with a Pa. Dutch background and Scots-Irish DNA, should be rewarded as founders and builders of this republic. Drop by.

Saltwater

I'm gonna link this who column into Friday's Claw. You get the traditional Navy "Well Done!" on this one.

add in the story

from France that you sent me and you'll have two hat tips in Friday's Claw

Reparations?

Facts are facts. Great read, Saltwater, and this one is going to get under the skin of a lot of folks!

Personally, I think those hollering for reparations should just get some preparation-h and sit down and keep quiet.

Bobbie, its not so much Blacks

don't remember, as it is, like most Americans, they were never taught the whole truth about slavery in the New World.
Those in position to get that truth out are often the same ones who profit and prosper by fostering a black outrage and sense of entitlement.
Keeping the story and scope of non-black slaves buried helps them play up the outrages committed against blacks as something only blacks can understand

Don't get greedy, Gar.

You were supposed to take care of all those things with your share of February's porkzilla paybackus bill.

Which reminds me, I'm still waiting for Barry to deliver that yacht I asked for.

Georgetwin, that only seems reasonable.

Especially considering Hal is still entrenched in that victim mentality -- waitin' on Massa to make it be right. (Or is that left?)

drpete, using the 40 acres and a mule

benchmark, discounted at the then prevailing 10 to 1 ratio, and prorated for your particular heritage, I figure you can safely expect one acre and a cat.

Sorry, rackoons, this is only for

those who claim victim status. However, your admitted ties to builders and contributors will surely move you from the back of the payout window line to the front of the dunning window line.

Be right over.

Thank you, Crawfish

in advance for the honorable mention.

Somehow I knew the sailor in you would find use for that story from our French friends.

Mrs. AL (Always Learning),

under their skin is where I hope to get.
Both sides have tried tap dancing around the issue while using only one foot for far too long. It is well past time for an honest discussion of that ugly part of our history.
Hopefully, both sides will finally understand that slavery wasn't just about skin color.
Whites might gain some perspective on the roots of black outrage.
Blacks might accept that their position was not so unique and throw off those last shackles of victim-hood.

Double Dipping

Guess, because I got both black and Irish blood in me veins, dam that means I won the ex-slave lottery. But, then again libs will say my German and English blood will make my good fortune null and void. After all what is a Melungeon.

Honest Discussion

Honest national discussion requires honest people speaking honestly with a compassionate heart and steadfast honor. In the environment in this country today, it isn’t going to happen on a large scale. I am pleased to report it does happen on a one-on-one scale.

A Vivid Reminder

of past history, Saltwater. Excellent essay. We can go all the way back and beyond the Roman Empire and the Christians who were thrown to the lions for the amusement of the "aristocracy". The Jewish people were also enslaved in Egypt and beyond. Remember William Wallace. His story and those of the Scots and Irish who rebelled reveal the sordid history of what power can do to the "common man".

Reparations are like the projects

Great Great post Saltwater. The thing about reparations is that it's like any give away, it's not earned so it's not respected. I've lived inner-city, rural, and in suburbia, middle class neighborhoods to low rent, and everywhere I've been, I've seen this simple truth plain as the nose on my face -- when people get something for nothing or near to it as in subsidized housing for instance, they invariably destroy the property and the subsidy never leads them from poverty.

Hence, legalizing the further theft of our hard earned money, then giving it away to address some ancient wrong done to a people long gone is not only constitutionally abhorrent it is immoral. When that money is gone and it has not furthered the cause of black Americans, then what? a second round of reparations? and what other groups will be lining up for reparation dollars? We already did reparation -- the Civil War with over 360,000 Union Army deaths. Ya know what they say 'bout the love of money...

Great post, Saltwater

I've always had a pet peeve regarding reparations for past grievances - and AfterShock touched on it. Throughout history, our young men (until recently women weren't there) fought and died for liberty. Only in the latter stages of WWII did blacks participate, and even then only in small numbers. Our young WHITE men paid for our current-day liberties with hundreds of thousands of their lives and I seldom (almost never) hear a "thank you" issued to their white descendants (us) for securing the freedom won during the Civil War. Not one penny for reparations.

You mean I am am victim?

Since I am Irish, I appreciate you informing me that I am victim and I will try to make sure all Irish decendents are entitled to welfare, food stamps, and Medicaid. Finally, I can get my share of government bail outs and handouts.

Saltwater

I'm wondering if I can go back to Europe and claim my ancestors were peons and I demand reparations. Of course half of my ancestors on my mothers side were vikings so I'd wonder how I'd fare there!

Irish History Month

I'm writing my congressman on this one. Do it for Teddy! That'll get it through the Senate. I'm not Irish but I hear the Welsh are near cousins.
If the agitators would quit agitating, we could all calm down and maybe achieve a true color blind society.
