Suitcase Atomic Weapons

With all due respect, the last I heard, there was no such thing as a practical suitcase atomic weapon. What I read was that it is possible to make some type of nuclear reaction in a small package that would cause diseases or even something that might damage (not by atomic explosion of the Hiroshima type) our communications systems, as horrible as that might be. The information I read about this was that atomic weapons thus far have not been able to be reduced to a size anywhere near small enough to put in a suitcase or even a size of a truck. Understand, what I am saying here is of necessity not very scientific, since I am most assuredly not a scientist or expert of any kind in nuclear physics. However, I am certain that the information I read said that suitcase atomic bombs simply do not exist.

Charlie as always thanks for the comment

Frankly I never researched the technology and may it would take a few boxes, I can't say for sure. The idea was by gaining access to our open borders terrorist could do massive damage and we certainly have seen that. The guy wasn't so far off and he was probably looking into the future when things would be more manageable, it may not have happened and it may never happen. But I did think that most of a Nuclear Missile was power and guidance and not weapons grade nuclear material. My college had a Nuclear reactor it was being built when I was there in the mid 60's, the actual reactor was quite small, the rest was simply protection. In any event if there is a way, someone will find out how to do it.
