Interesting
That certainly seems to be a book worth checking out. I loved that quote. Perfect.
And now the obligatory Oakland joke...So you found yourself in a grimey part of Oakland? You'll need to narrow that down a bit.

Oaklan
I know, I thought that too but unfortunately I forgot exactly where it was.
I didn't write in the post, but while I was there, I was accosted by probably the rudest panhandler I've ever met. He said, "Can you spare some change?" and when I said, "Sorry," he reacted by shouting at me, "C'mon, damn it! I'M BROKE!!"
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

You should have said...
"That may be, sir. But I must tell you. Your attitude most certainly has something to do with it." And then of course, run like hell.
btw...I take it you've been over to Hot Air to watch our favorite militant atheist wearing a Santa hat and...gulp...singing.

Hitchens
There was a really good comment left on Hot Air:
I’m surprised that he hasn’t changed his given name.
Seeing Hitchens make a buffoon of himself is very disheartening, as I once cheered him on as he showed the world what a hypocritical buffoon George Galloway was (and likely still is).
The North Korea analogy doesn't work, either. Hitchens has the freedom to turn the radio station where Christmas songs are playing off, go to a site like Pandora.com and listen to British drinking songs to his heart's delight. He knows this, but he likes to attack everything he doesn't have the personal taste for as somehow infringing on his freedom.

BTW
I think saying that would have to be followed by running as hell, because I've known people that have been shot in Oakland for no fault of their own. It's not a great town. Even their Barnes and Noble was grimey.
