A GLAAD Moment

Hey, since when did you become so

prolific?

Good post, and I have a question for you. Liberals and the MSM are nominally big proponents of gay rights, GLAAD style. Yet I rarely see them more exercised and excited as when they have the chance to call a conservative or Republican figure gay (there's an f word that's probably more appropriate, but the TH censors don't like) or push one out of the closet. The word hypocritical gets bandied about entirely too much these days, so I'll simply say that this strikes me as rather odd and ask what you think of this observation.

Prolific? Me?

Thanks for the comments Philosophocon!

I think that your observation is dead on the money accurate when it comes to the, shall we say disparity in treatment of gay conservatives as opposed to gay liberals, and the overarching thing is, that the media themselves are going to do anything it takes to discredit conservatives and the so-called gay rights groups will support it because they're more focused on being anti-conservative than they are supportive of gays.

Any underdog merits a "gay" following

I think there's some deep psyche thing going on to the extent that you see many gays supporting any cause that is the underdog. It's like it's some kind of deep-rooted behavior left over from Elementary School Field Day where maybe they were the fat kids or something. They will take ANY ISSUE and make it their pet, if it means that the strong, the capable, the heterosexual, the main-stream, the intelligent, the beautiful and the wealthy get hosed.

Underdogs & Liberals

I think this is largely true. While there are a number of gay and lesbian people who refuse to look at themselves as victims, those who perhaps lacked popularity and have been led to believe that they otherwise lack strength are always willing to see themselves as the "have-not's" and kick the "haves" in the head, be it social or economic reasons. In liberalism you don't have any one reason, but a multitude competing to bring down the achievers rather than trying to bring themselves up. I ought to know, I was and at times still am the proverbial "porcupine at a nudist colony".
