Mir Hossein Mousavi vows to keep moving forward with Iran's nuclear program

QUESTION FOR BEN

Apart from using their nuclear weapons does Israel have the conventional capability of destroying Iran's underground nuclear facilities?

good question

This is a complex questions. Israel does have some explosives to bomb Iran's underground nuclear weapons facilities. Iran's nuclear weapons facilities are for one thing far more complex than Saddam's Osirak nuclear weapons program. Iran's nuclear weapons program is an underground network full of nuclear weapon sites. Some people are worried that even as we speak, some are being kept secret. Bombing Iran's nuclear weapons program is a desirable idea. Stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons does stop a nuclear apocalypse. It does help to stop forces from the world's most dangerous ideology where MAD [Mutually Assured Destruction] is not a deterrent, from having the world's most dangerous weapon. But I support the third option, which is to support Iranian pro-democracy opposition groups. This option will end the Khomeinist regime's terror reign and will make Iran a free democracy.

IRAN'S DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT

Thanks for your imput. By all means we should support Iran's democratic movement. A great many Iranians I believe want what Shiite Iraq has: an accountable representative government. But the Iranian people are mostly docile and a violent Iranian insurrection-a counterrevolution-is very unlikely in the foreseeable future. Israel is alone facing a murdering apocalyptic power mad regime hell bent on its destruction to win glory in the Moslem world and restore the Persian Empire. As Israel can't invade Iran to overthrow the mullahs all that it has to ensure its survival are its nuclear arms.

Thankyou ApolloSpeaks

ApolloSpeaks, Thanks for your comments on my blog. But Israel doesn't only have nuclear weapons to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. It depends on how you look at it. Iran presents a threat to the US and seeks to use a nuclear EMP attack to attack America. Iranian people are far more proud of the Persian Empire than the Iranian regime, which seeks to impose its form of Islam on the world. Iran's regime is completely radical Islamist. Also, the US should follow suit with the EU [European Union] in removing the PMOI from the blacklist. We should use the MEK and NCRI in ending the tyranny of the Iranian regime. The MEK exposed Iran's nuclear weapons program, gave many information on it, exposed Iran's terrorist network in Iraq and also gave info on Iran's terrorist attack on the Jewish Community Center in Argentina. In general, we should support Iran's democratic movement in liberating their country. I don't think we should use nuclear weapons on Iran. After all, if we support Iran's democratic movement, the mullahs' rule will crumble. It won't crumble if we continue appease the Mullahs by attacking and isolating the MEK, which presents an existential threat to the Mullahs' reign of terror.

THE NUCLEAR END OF FASCIST IRAN

As with Saddam Hussein I do not see anything but a violent end to the mullah regime which can only come from a US led invasion or a preemptive nuclear strike by Israel. The Obama administration is Neville Chamberlain on steroids and cannot be relied on the stop Iran from going nuclear and expanding its influence throughout the Middle East. Obama is rapidly becoming the greatest enabler of Iranian power since Jimmy Carter. The MEK and other anti-Mullah opposition groups will get zero support from this administration. Israel is now alone in facing an expansionist genocidal Islamist regime hellbent on its destruction, a threat it can only eliminate with a massive nuclear blow. It is unfortunate that it has come to this and yes I know, many innocent people will die, but in the age of Barack Obama Israel has no alternative. My response

Apollospeaks, you make some good points. I agree that Obama is a Chamberlain-like president who will bolster Iran with his offer of talks without preconditions. You're right about Obama. He is a big appeaser and won't support Iranian opposition groups including the MEK. But Israel won't use nuclear weapons on Iran. Israel should at least strike Iran's nuclear facilities, even though it'll be much harder than what Israel did in attacking Saddam's nuclear reactor. Regime change is better than simply bombing Iran's nuclear weapons sites. Netanyahu is Prime Minister of Israel. He's fully dedicated to getting security for Israel and won't simply allow Iran to develop the nuclear bomb. Even if he gets condemned by Obama's America, he'll still do what he can for Israel's survival. Using nuclear weapons on Iran is simply not the answer. Most Iranians oppose the regime's oppressive rule.

BEN

I'm well aware of the massive domestic discontent with the mullahs; but it is also true that the Iranian public, perhaps 60% or more, support the regime's funding, training and arming of Hezbollah and Hamas in its genocidal war against Israel. These are Moslems and though Persian/Shiite they share the humiliation of the Sunni Arab world over Israel's defiant existence. The nuclear destruction of Iran would be a last resort, a Samson option, when all else failed or seems unlikely to succeed. Once the mullahs are vaporized Hamas and Hezbollah in time would collapse for want of a sponsor and Syria would get the fear of God.

Apollospeaks

Your assessment that at perhaps 60% of more Iranians support the regime's funding of Hamas and Hezbollah is an unsupported assertion. It may be true that many Iranians do support the regime's funding of Hamas and Hezbollah. The popular pro-democracy movement in Iran [and not the fake reformists and fake moderates like Khatami, Mousavi and Rafsanjani] opposes the regime's funding of Hamas and Hezbollah. Iranian human rights activists even cite it as part of their opposition to the Mullahs. Iran's regime is very unpopular among its people. Hezbollah and Hamas are not that popular among Iran's people. Their Iranian backers have little support in Iran. A nuclear strike on Iran is not going to happen, since Israel and the west including America value life. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the exception as opposed to the general rule and it was when the world was discovering the horror of nuclear weapons. A nuclear strike on Iran won't happen and is not even supported by most Americans, most Europeans or most Israelis. We should listen to people like Raymond Tanter and groups like the IPC [Iran Policy Committee]. Iran's regime is already unpopular in their country and is killing their own people. Many Iranian people are pro-American. Of course, the Iranian regime hates America and considers it the enemy. The Iranian regime hates America for being an infidel nation that promotes what they see as sinful to Allah. America promotes freedom. The Iranian regime is very unpopular. We have organized pro-democracy movements there. A nuclear strike on Iran was never on the list of options for America, the west and Israel. It shouldn't be. A nuclear strike would kill innocent people as well. Most of the Iranian people, as I said, already oppose the regime.

EPM ATTACK ON IRAN?

You are wrong about support for Hamas and Hezbollah in Iran, my friend. Polls taken in December 2006 by Worldpublicopinion.org found that a slim majority of Iranians support Hezbollah and Hamas and their genocidal policies toward Israel. This means that Iranian support for its regime's anti-Israel policies is also rather strong.

I wish the best for Iran's democratic movement but it is largely an impotent force with little prospect of success in toppling the regime. Its only hope was a US invasion during the Bush Administration but now that is gone. The mullahs are as ruthless in keeping their power as was Saddam Hussein who succeeded in crushing every revolt against him. As Khomeine said: "let Iran burn so long as Islam (the Iranian Revolution) prevail." The mullahs will do whatever it takes to survive even if it means killing millions of Iranians.

With the Carter-like Obama administration showing signs of acquiescing in the existence of a nuclear armed Iran a nuclear showdown between Israel and the mullahs is inevitable, unless Israel preemptively strikes to cripple them. Perhaps an EPM attack by Israel on Iran would be the best way to go for reducing the mullahs and their military machine to near impotency.

Apollospeaks

In terms of Iranian support for Hamas, Hezbollah and their genocidal intentions toward Israel, that's one source. I'm not saying that it has no credibility. polls don't ask every singe person. There are some Iranians who support Hamas, Hezbollah and their genocidal policies toward Israel. But when you look at what Iranian pro-democracy activists say, they attack the Mullahs for their policies toward Israel, and for their support of Hamas and Hezbollah. Iranian pro-democracy movements do the same. Don't mention Khatami, Rafsanjani or Mousavi. They're not in the pro-democracy movement. They're part of the Iranian regime and an accomplice to their crimes. I agree with you about Obama's policy toward Iran and that his appeasement policy is very much like Carter's policies. Iran's regime is very unpopular. I a democratic Iran emerges, it it'll be one that supports peace with Israel and one that doesn't support Hamas or Hezbollah. A nuclear attack on Iran will kill innocent people who are oppressed by the Mullahs. I agree with you that Iran will launch a nuclear war on Israel after they complete their nuclear program and when they fell ready to do so. I understand that Iran plans to launch a nuclear EMP attack on America. We agree on the Iranian threat. If we unite and help to mobilize Iran's pro-democracy movement, the Mullah's reign of terror will crumble. It was never even an option for Israel, America or the west. The reason why is because Israel, America and the west value life and have no desire to kill Iranian civilians. I do favor attacking Iran's nuclear weapons program if done properly. I even favor regime change in Iran even more. An EMP attack is not even being considered by Israel, the west or America because it is wrong both morally and strategically. Israel, America and the west rightly care about the Iranian people. You do understand the apocalyptic nature of the Iranian regime. We aren't apocalyptic like Iran's regime is.
