I agree with Bob completely. To add to the witch-hunt thots:

The bonuses at AIG were called "Retention Bonuses." I believe AIG set them up for two reasons.

1. For the reason implied in the name of the bonus: To help retain key people who otherwise might leave the company during tough times; otherwise called a "Golden Handcuff."

2. For people who are in the profit-producing part of AIG - who deserve a bonus if it is a part of retaining them and rewarding them while those who are in the losing side do not get a bonus.

I heard from people close to AIG that the above two reasons are accurate.

But with Barney and Chris working really hard to push the barrel aside, the folks at AIG have no chance. Look back to the late 1930's and read some of the inside activity going on in Berlin, and you will see a similarity. And their Blessed Leader also assisted the firing squad by being charismatic and enjoying his popularity at the expense of innocents.
