Kudos, Cuda
Great read and thanx for posting this thoughtful analysis.
While reading it occured to me that, IMHO, one of the hallmark distinctions between liberals and conservatives is the fact that conservatives do not DEPEND upon a governmental structured society to succeed and thrive.
We tend not to be sheep that follow a herd just to feel secure. We are comfortable relying on our own talents, abilities, hard work, etc to carry us through the hard times. We will, however, rallly together to set things straight. I think we are seeing evidence of this last point with the Tea Party phenom.
Sorry to go on, your most thoughtful piece got me thinking.

Much appreciated. It both frightens and depresses me when I see how far away from self-reliance we've become. Had I the choice, government would only be in charge of three things:
1: Defense.
2: Creation and regulation of money
3: Providing a system of laws and courts which protect liberties, property, and life.
The rest should be states issues.

It is depressing how far the States have relinquished their rightful place in out Constitutional Republic. Once the States were cowered, it was easy for the national government to assume the current out of control power grab.
I have been spending much of my time communicating with my State Senator and Delegate. So far, I have not seen a lot of evidence of backbone.
Like a bad penny, I will turn up again to read more, Cuda. You are welcoms to visit my little corner of the blogosphere. I try and have a little fun in addition to posting some more serious schtuff.
