R.I.P.

Interesting man,now on the lighter side, things have been quiet in the war zone lately,I guess Iran and the rest of the scum are waiting for Obambi to get elected, that will give them the green light to kick off some good offensives, which im sure they have been stocking up for during this lull in action,if Iran can get their nukes a good delivery vehicle all hell will break loose, they don't have them yet or they would have used them on Israel.

Donnie

They're waiting for O-Vomit to bomb Pakistan like he said we should before hitting us. Obambi truly is a shallow thinker.

Gunny

Great piece on WFB. We MUST not let him down. Stop on by Pepperhawk's place,we been skewering a moonbat who goes by impeachbush. Good stuff!

yeah it really sucked

when the US bombed Pakistan recently and killed al-Qaeda's #3 guy.

That was terrible, terrible. Hope they don't do it again and get Osama.

You also could read Obama's speech on Pakistan on his issues site under
foreign policy.

I support taking our al-Qaeda members this way not surprisingly I
support Obama who seems the toughest against terrorism and foreign
invasion stupidity - Iran, anyone?

Anyways, I liked Buckley. And he was often right, unlike the moonbattery of the right that tries to link every idea or politician that is
Dem to the Nazis or Socialism/Communism.

funny typo

yep, that should be out not our al-Qaeda members.

Although it is starting to feel like our al-Qaeda members since they've
been around so long whereas if there had been no Iraq these members
would be out. imo.

everyfact

Don't you worry now, your boy is not going to bomb anyone,in fact he will pull our troops out of the Mideast completely, reduce the military, and abandon Israel,Obambi will do what the Mullahs or Allah or whatever tell him to.

RIP Bill Buckley

Like you Gunny, I also discovered Mr. Buckley channel surfing as a kid. (Lot fewer channels to surf back then) I remember sitting, mesmerized at the way the man could literally rip his debate opponents to shreds, without ever using a coarse word or raised voice. All the while never losing that devilish little smile, and the twinkle in his eye.

Bill Buckley made it OK to be conservative in a time when "Conservative" was almost a naughty word. He blazed a bright trail followed by millions of Americans who finally realized that it was time for the "Silent Majority" to find it's voice.

The debates up in heaven have just gotten a lot livelier.

The road less traveled

"The inroads that relativism has made on the American soul are not so easily evident."

True. Thanks to Buckley and others in exposing it, at least it does not go unchallenged. Except relativism, as typified by the left, is no less of a threat now. The el-leftos just move on to their next attack. Social justice, as through the eyes of Ayers and the many comrades, is a very real part of that continuum. I just hope people listen to the opposing side. Buckley proved what one can do.

Just think, Gunny, the Clintinoid said it pretty well herself:
“the sky will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing...and everyone will know we should do the right thing, and the world will be perfect”.

GunnyG

I still have Buckley's first book...It was my father's, and it is in Spanish. To this day, it is a great read.

Thanks for this beautiful, a$s kicking essay.

Amen Gunny,

Well done-
YOU should have a weekly column!

GUNNYG: AND WHAT A PROFILE

A true original. They broke the mold with him.

I quoted him in writing (with credit) as often as I could. It helped to add validity to what I wrote.

Listening to him, as I did on occasion years ago, I was literally struck dumb by his command of the English language. His vocabulary was endless. He was extraordinary. What a loss we will endure. There is a great void nobody can ever fill.

OUTSTANDING!!

I will never forget when I first came across National Review at the age of 11. I saw the cover with President Ronaldus Magnus and had to take a peek.

From then on, for many many years, I have been introduced to so many other authors, contributors, and writers that I would have never known otherwise.

Mr. Buckley
R.I.P.

Excellent post, Gunny!!

Hey Gunny

I wonder how long till we hear some reference to Buckley from that great empty persona, Obama? How, I don't know but...

Jackpine Savage

Indeed. I await the day when I can meet these giants in Heaven.

I can only wonder if Bill knew that he was seeding the minds of MILLIONS of future Conservatives who would never again bend over for the libs.

“the sky will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing...and everyone will know we should do the right thing, and the world will be perfect”.

She forgot to add: "the world will be perfect... [when the last liberal buys the farm!"]

YLG

Thanks for the kudos. I hope that it gave a lib a seizure somewhere after they read it.! haha

Persephone in SD

WOW! Thanks for the kudos. Who knows, maybe Buckley created a right-wing columnist way back when as I watched "Firing Line."

Frigglesnitz

I'm hoping that his son is following in his father's footsteps although you are correct, what a HUGE loss to the right.

Jimmy Carter

Thanks my friend. I just grubbed a stack of National Review mags from Al-Faw Palace. Well, rather, I LIBERATED them! hahaha. GREAT reading material and I WILL subscribe when I get home.

xpressit

Yeah, no kidding. O-Vomit isn't fit to shine Buckley's shoes.

Gunny

Is there an address I could send you my NR's? E-mail me if you like. Wouldn't want you to be accused of stealing by the Lt.Col. now would we?mwahahahaha

GUNNYG - OLD NRs

Gunny, I'm probably exhibiting my naivete, but you do know there's an NRO, I'm sure. It was National Review Online that led me to Townhall.com. It was on NRO that I first "discovered" the writings of WHB.

Its a darn shame

Buckley left no intellectual heirs.

That's my dead drop box but I get it.

The First Culture Warriors

Dear GunnyG:

I well remember when the conservative voice was limited to Bill Buckley, Bill Rusher and Michael Savage's predecessor, Joe Pyne. Buckley, with his deceptively lazy drawl, methodically took apart his opponents arguments without them completely realizing it until it was too late. Rusher, with his razor-sharp mind (and tongue to match!) cut them to ribbons like Conan among a cannibal tribe. Pyne picked out the biggest of the wackos he could find and allowed them to define themselves with their own antics... spurred on by his occasional, caustic remarks.

Joe Pyne has long since departed. William Rusher- semi-retired, but keen as ever- yet makes his presence known. But William F. Buckley was the Sage of the early conservative movement. We owe him much.
