20 Years To See Results... I think Not!

I'm constantly hearing those opposed to drilling for oil offshore, in ANWR etc. using the excuse that it will take 20 or more years to see any results. I really do not think that is the case. For example:

Monday, July 14, 2008 - Pres. Bush announces lifting executive order banning offshore drilling.

Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - Price per barrel drops $6.44, the largest 1 day drop in price since the beginning of the Iraq war in 2003.

Wednesday, July 16, 2008 - Price drops another $3.71

And this is simply from an announcement!

"Well, yeah Gimli! It's one thing to get a short-term drop 'cause you say you'll do something but it'll still take decades or more to actually get the oil flowing!"

In April 1999 Shell Oil had a place in the gulf they thought would be profitable. In July 2001 "Brutus" was producing oil. In 2 years the platform was built, towed to the location, installed and online.

*Note* In an effort to be "fair", there are those who think that a decrease in demand was responsible for the drop in crude prices.

While looking for some factual info, at politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com, I came across this interresting post:

"yeah right Bush dd not make nothing drop the speculators seen that they were rising oil more than Demand was growing and tney stop raising the expectations because they know that they have barrels just sitting and not being used"

Honest! I did not change a single character. I don't think I could write that poorly had I tried.
