Considering your bio:

Ben

I am previous military, USN, 10 years. I have a duel degree in accounting and business management from Louisiana State University. Married, father of two daughters.

I am interested in what you have to say...

Welcome

"It is the duty of every man to render to the Creator such homage, and such only, as he believes to be acceptable to him. This duty is precedent both in order of time and degree of obligation, to the claims of Civil Society. Before any man can be considered as a member of Civil Society, he must be considered as a subject of the Governor of the Universe."

-- James Madison (A Memorial and Remonstrance, 1785)

"How many observe Christ's birth-day! How few, his precepts! O! 'tis easier to keep Holidays than Commandments."

-- Benjamin Franklin (Poor Richards Almanack, 1743)

...about that unitary president thing...

Thanks for the discussion the other day...I have been thinking and reading...It does strike me however-that much of the info I have read is a bit slanted.
For the record, I don't like slamming people's opinions or beliefs, but sometimes I am incredulous that so much seems to lack rationality or people are spewing absolute hate at whatever the President does.
As I stated the other day...I do believe that the President is acting in good faith. I also understand that anything he does seems to be severely scrutinized.

That being said, let me expand a little...We know the President does not have the power to make/change laws. Congress does. I think you suggested he is circumventing the law in regard to FISA. He can issue executive orders also.
However, what I understand that executive powers mandates, the President operated within that scope. That is a subjective thing, however. The Constitution does back him if you also consider the "definition" of executive powers that the US.gov site uses.

"Within the executive branch itself, the president has broad powers to manage national affairs and the workings of the federal government. The president can issue rules, regulations, and instructions called executive orders, which have the binding force of law upon federal agencies but do not require congressional approval. As commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the United States, the president may also call into federal service the state units of the National Guard. In times of war or national emergency, the Congress may grant the president even broader powers to manage the national economy and protect the security of the United States."

I still stand by my assertion that he is not just taking the law into his own hands. I also think that the public does not have to be told everything that the President does in the name of being a Public servant.

And I also think alot of those that disagree with the war are willing to read anything and everything into what the President's motives are and ascertain that he is acting above the law...ruining our credibility. I have heard this from others.
I will ask you again...do you really believe he doesn't have the Country's best interests in mind as he makes those decisions, whether or not you think he is oeverusing signing statements?

And let me say that if he is breaking the law and the rest of the Gov't is letting him, I guess the checks and balances suck and personally, I think he should be impeached.

Just my two...

Nee

Nee,

Thanks for the response. I would like to respond and need to give it the same consideration you had in your opinions. It may take a few days, seems I have committed myself to writing a pledge. Besides that, the wife is in school at night and things get hectic, so… Check back though, I would like to continue the discussion.
