Was the Bill of Rights our first big mistake?

Bill of Rights

From a history class a long time ago - which conservatives will no doubt label as liberal - I remember learning that the constitution was primarily a document about business, being created by commercial people who were able to get away to spend some time in Philadelphia, whereas the ordinary farmer or craftsperson could not afford to go to Philadelphia for four months, or even travel back and forth.

So, I understand that the colonies would not have ratified the constitution as it stood (apparently the average person did get a chance to either vote or influence the vote) and so the Bill of Rights was added in order to get the constitution ratified.

Was it a mistake?

I agree with your comments. The bill of rights is used to protect others and not the common people as it was supposed to. The Government shouldn't be using it to inforce laws one minute and break them in another. I agree with your article. I hope you don't mind me using it for a class assignment.
