'Tis folly to ignore Dr. Sowell.
I am asked frequently if I know what political party Dr. Sowell has supported during his long career. Though I have devoted time to learning about Dr. Sowell's origins and formative influences, I cannot asnwer the question definitively.
My incomplete knowledge tends to direct me to classify him as a Conservative; but then I remember that classical liberals no longer are recognized by those of us who dabble in these matters. Most of the known Conservative gurus would qualify as classical liberals rather than neo modern Conservatives. Here I go again, as Dutch always said when he realized that his public discourse was more classically liberal than neoConservative. Back to that old nemesis of perspective, definition and philosophical history.
My research and attention to biographic details has resulted in my declaring that Thomas Sowell's consistently exacting wisdom always clarifies and augments my own understanding of tendencies and directions. When confronted with specifics rather than abstractions, I find that I am more indebted to Mr. Burke, who was a classical liberal rather than a neomodernist Conservative or ludicrous neomodernist Nihilist that we identify as a Democrat Liberal. I consider Dr. Sowellto be in that special frame with Malcolm Muggeridge.
For me, at least, Dr. Sowell is one of the few commentators who consistently transcends the fodder of politics of the moment.
Maybe he qualifies as a true philosopher.
