Mike I am the "Reformed Republican" in this article. I am 55… now a successful self employed businessman with a 30+ year career in HR, benefits and healthcare, father of 3 – girls 26 & 5, boy 8. I am a registered Republican here in GA, a political junkie, grew up in Oak Park, IL as part of a Democratic family and did work in 1968 at 15 (40 years ago) canvassing Indiana and totally committed to RFK.

I have voted 9 times starting in 1972 – McGovern ( a very honorable man, I worked for him at the convention in Chicago at 15 in 1968), Carter (a total failure) then 7 straight for Republicans starting with Reagan ( a true hero)– Mondale was at least an honorable man but Gerri Ferraro was and is a loon, Dukakis was a clown, I hated Bill Clinton the lying opportunist even before “is”, Gore is a buffoon. Kerry was a joke and Hillary turns my stomach…is that conservative enough??? I LOVE Bill O’Reilly , watch Fox News, enjoy Rush as entertainment from time to time but am tired of idiots like Hannity who are hateful, vindictive liars with little or no intellectual capacity. I respect Karl Rove and Pat Buchanan , love Camille Paglia’s common sense feminism…

I have seen a lot since 1960 the first election I remember, am well educated and follow politics in more detail than most pundits and columnists and I know we are in deep trouble today and must act with “the fierce urgency of now” or it will be too late…Obama '08 - Yes We Can..

I fully respect John's perspective, but your commentary expresses the rule rather than John,s exception. The key words I hear are "democrat family" "Oak Park, Il" and "totally comitted to RFK".

"Democrat family" in Chicago means "Daley machine yoonyun guys", Oak Park means "socialist- Daley machine yoonyun guys" and "totally committed to RFK" means "Dorothy Day type catlik Daley machine yoonyun guys".

Conservatives are typically pro life (Obama?) pro personal accountability (Obama?) capitalist (Obama?).
