You Sir, Are No Nixon!

The Only Comparisome I Want

Is Obama getting ignominiously drummed out of the White House.
But ... then ...

There's Biden. Waiting in the wing.
Then...

There's Pelosi.

Diabolic planning. By Barry. Diabolic.
And who is in line after the Speaker of the House?
Secretary of State??? Diabolic.

Unfortunately Flag,

none of the deep thinking in your essay will ever find its way into the media, nor was much thought likely behind their reason to compare O to Nixon. I doubt their thoughts went any deeper than hey, he's got an ennemies list just like Nixon, wow, like what are the odds, how cool is that.

Barry's got an impressive list of job titles to put on a resume, I'll grant you that, but unfortunately his only accomplishment seems to have been amassing those job titles, not doing anything when holding them.

And of course Nixon from what I can tell really only had one major ethics violation, whereas that's the fattest part of O's resume, as you described.

About the Harvard Law Review, I seem to recall reading that O actually never wrote an article in it, or it never published an issue during his time as editor, or something along those lines, if I find the specifics I'll shoot them your way.

I beg to differ!

"...but has very little to show for all his yapping and mewling..."

Nobel Peace Prize!

Flag,

Great essay! I hadn't really thought about it, other than the enemies list deal, but you're right. Even at that level, he's all fail. Can you imagine Nixon blocking a network from an interview and then caving and allowing the network in?

Btw, drop by when you get the time; have a post up on Palin's endorsement of Hoffman.

Brian,

if he can somehow manage an Oscar and a MTV Music Video Award (the coveted Moonman), his Presidency will be complete.

Swell

Okay, I don't really remember Nixon, I was young. This entire administration is so media happy that is all they do.

Was there ever an administration that gave a press conference every single day? Really, doesn't Gibbs have anything else to do. Oh wait, this is the fake transparency. I keep forgetting. Then Obama does his little videos each week and hey again, fake transparency. I know some people are falling for it, but I do hope they wise up.

DEFINITELY not Nixon. Nixon at least had enough honor to resign after being caught. The P.L.L. lies EVERY day and then whines about his coverage. This guy won't go away soon enough. The OLDM will see to it,until they are all bankrupt from the constant azs-kissing they do with him.Good post,Flag.

Thanks for coming!

Sorry to have been so late in replying, but things got a bit hectic for me this weekend. But I'm here now, so let's get started!

Philo: The only reason to compare Obama and Nixon is the "enemies list", and the Legacy Media brings it up only in an effort to knock it down. I was listening to The Diane Rheem Show on NPR Friday, and some Legacy hack...David Corn I think...was on there braying about how this doesn't compare because Nixon was plotting to blow up the Brookings Institution! Now that was one I had never heard, and I kind of doubt the veracity of it, but you see the point....no matter what Obama does wrong, the Legacy Media will bend over and take it up the rump to keep his image intact!

Brian: You're right about the NPP, but does it really count? I mean, they'll give that thing to anyone (excepting someone like Mother Teresa) if you have the right politics. But it does add something else to the old resume, though.

Wulf: Obama cannot hold a candle to Nixon when it comes to experience or actual accomplishment; Nixon has him beat everywhere. And in the lack of ethics category Obama is damned near close to him there...and in less than a year on the job! BTW, Obama is on television so much that he should be in line for an Emmy for this year's pressers; maybe they can shoehorn them into some reality show category, or treat them like documentaries. Hey, you never know with the left!

Sue and clyde

Sue: I was young then too, heck I'm only 38 now, still young on most days; but I started looking more closely at Nixon a few years ago and found out that he wasn't as evil as the caricature, nor was he as conservative as the Legacy Media paints him to be. He was a bit paranoid, but the NYT, WaPo, and CBS News (with Dan Rather in the lead) gave him reason to be with the way they pursued him; they aimed to run him to ground and eventually they did it. As for the people, more and more are peeking behind the curtain and understanding that the wizard is just a failed carny; all the pressers in the world cannot hide the lack of accomplshments in this administration.

Clyde: Yeah, Nixon did eventually fall on the sword to avoid impeachment, which Obama would never do. But, Obama could lick Hugo Chavez's boots in public and cozy up to the Castros and the media would pretend it was great "diplomacy". Oh, wait...that really happened! But you see my point, no?

Nixon Now!

I use to collect campaign buttons and bumper stickers. I have an old, unused NIXON NOW bumper sticker. Despite my mixed feelings about Nixon's achievements and some of his misguided liberalism, these days I am often tempted to get it out and tape it to the inside of the rear window of my automobile.

Welcome to the Spade, and thanks for your comment. Feel free to come by anytime and peruse the old archives and get a feel for what I'm about!

I understand your squeamishness about Nixon, and I am not trying to say that Nixon was an all-timer as president. But I will say that he's a damned sight better than the buffoon sitting in the Oval Office today...unless he's had to take AF-1 across the country for some campaign stop or something. Nixon wasn't a textbook conservative, but he at least had a record to stand on when he became president, and he left a decent record behind.
