That the nazis were on the right
can be seen in their nationalism as seen in their "Germany First" slogan as well as their promotion of traditional values. In addition, the Nazis persecuted everyone on the left. That Nazis have ties to the right is undeniable. That their expansive big gov't and tyranny can be seen in both the left and the right.
Only a subset of conservatives actually include small gov't and they have to parse what small gov't means. Whenever you increase the military and homeland security, you increase the size of big gov't. But more than that, conservative revolves around the reluctance to change, only some conservatives include small gov't

And Strasser and labor socialists who formed the Berlin wing of the party? Or the "National Socialist" part? How does that work in your theory?
For that matter, if Nationalism is always of the right, then where do black nationalist fit in your scheme? Or La Raza and Mecha? Nationalism is not a creature of the right, and certainly not of the modern American right.
The problem here is simple. Just as "liberal" once meant one fighting for smaller government and free markets, conservative once meant different things.
It is too much to get into here, but the problem is that 'right" is sometimes used in the sense it should mean from about 1960 onward in the US, sometimes to represent the position of the Republicans form 1860-about 1950, sometimes to mean the monarchist or nationalist parties of Europe until the mid 20th century, and sometimes mean all three at once.
That is absurd.
Just as I argue Buchanan is not on the right, as his position and Obama's could be made identical if Buchanan stopped mentioning "culture wars" and Obama mentioned Jesus a little more often. Similarly, to say that "nationalism" is "right wing" is to take an attribute of a political spectrum that no loner exists.
Though that imaginary spectrum you propose does one thing, makes the "moderates" look like the only proponents of freedom, which is an absurdity, as we can see today when moderates are slowly instituting the world's largest nanny state.
No, the "right" in the US today has as much to do with Nazism as walruses have to do with the Crimean War.
