Some Thoughts on the Passing Scene

I's safe to come home now, dude! LOL!

I confess I was trying send a message yesterday but, heck, I'm always trying to send a message.

I think your analysis is pretty close to accurate. We found out yesterday that when Obama isn't on the ballot it doesn't bring out his movement people. NJ is huge, and so is the new Governor!

Hoffman did just fine. He sent the message to the RINOs in no uncertain terms and blew a hole in that giant gasbag, Newt. I swear I've never seen a candidate look more uncomfortable in front the camera. It was priceless!

Sarge

We just may do so, but still give us a year and a half... Gotta finish this law school thing, which I am now more than committed to here. But I do love the Old Dominion. My parents grew up there and so I spent a lot of time growing up in both Richmond and Portsmouth. My dad is a Hokie engineer and my mom went to Radford. I love it from the coast to the mountains, from Petersburg to Fairfax. So, we just may have to find our way back...

Yeah, I've heard a lot of people say that the Obama crazies didn't come out and vote, so you really can't say this was about Obama. Well, maybe. You can say that he's not as powerful as people once thought, though. And it is at least a small reflection on his policies, though I expect in reality it is bigger than small.

Hoffman did well, and I think his showing will energize conservatives. Might it further the GOP split? Maybe, but who cares. I am not into the party if the party is not going to support what is most important to me...

Oh, and I missed the Newt thing...

What happened there?

Hoffman did fine

but to the liberal republicans and those who only vote for someone with an R is showing a lack of principles, as those who only vote for someone with a D.

Continuing the tea parties and our current distaste from this administrations' policies being implemented, the conservative party has been energized. Not only conservatives, but the independents left wondering why the politicians they voted for haven't done any good or followed through on promises. I'm wondering what the next elections will bring.

Eric

Good point about the independants wondering why who they voted for did not fulfill their promises... Its true, and its easy to look at the problems within the demise of the GOP, the Dems are struggling too. The only real difference is the GOP is split by a big chasm in belief. So far, Dems have been able to keep the ranks pretty close, but that may be in jeopardy, especially if they don't get healthcare...

Anyway, it will be interesting to watch next year. I think we'll see more of what we saw tonight, but a lot can happen between now and then.

Eric

Hope this isn't a double post, but basically, good point on the disenfranchised independants...

I also think next year we'll see much of what we saw last night, but a lot can happen between now and then...

Maybe if the republicans

could remember who's side they're on and hadn't selected Dede Liberalinrepublicanclothing as candidate, and if other republicans hadn't abandoned their ethics/standards/constituents and endorsed her.........maybe we would have won NY too. Democrats never quit lying and Republicans never quit jumping fence. It's like watching a sad circus.

Bobbie

I am not sure which side they are on, so they re naturally confused. But I think they are on the side of winning, not on the side of "right". Win at all costs instead of stick to your guns...

Oh well...

I have a year and a half left...

All for show

It's quite telling that Obama spent so much time and political capital working for Corzine, only to see him go down in flames. Gibbs claiming that Obama wasn't paying attention to the results was a lame attempt at a smokescreen. The One now knows that he can't spread his arms wide and cause all elections to go how he wishes.

As for VA politics being dominated by a couple of small areas, it is the same in Pennsylvania. The Philly and Pittsburgh areas overwhelm the rest of the state at the ballot box, which is why they have Casey and S.P.E.C.T.R.E. as their Senators.

VDad

Here's what Glen Bolger, one of the engineers of the McDonnell victory had to say:

"I’ve been asked if Bob’s strong showing in the polls leading into his overwhelming Election Day victory is because of Bob McDonnell’s issue-based campaign, the vacuous and negative campaign of Creigh Deeds, or voter reaction to Barack Obama’s expansion of government. The answer is yes – it is all three."

Here's a link to the article which is much more expansive:

I can't believe you missed "Green" Newt going to the wall for Scuzzy saying she was a good republican. I swear, you can't print some of things being said in the comments on his blog. HaHaHa!

I was born and raised in Norfolk but forty years of wanderlust has led me first to Virginia Beach and then to Great Bridge. Ok, so that's like 12 miles but I like it here!

Hoffman has RINOs and Dems spinning like crazy, I count that as a win!

My take

These elections WERE a referendum on Bat Ears; he campaigned in Virginia FIVE TIMES, and was soundly rejected. Don't buy the MSM BS on that.

Newt... the moon-faced former conservative named after an amphibian.

He's toast. About as relevant as last week's losing Lotto ticket.

He's waaaay past his "use by" date. Someone send him back to Georgia.

"The point is he is more irrelevant than

he would like.."
And he is just now realizing it. And
THAT's eating him up.

In a way his reactions to this remind me of Caligula.
His reactions to Gen'l McChristi's demands defnitely remind me of Nero.

Ah, Gibbons, you could have written another great history lesson.

Eric...I've Seen The Light

The MAIN argument against a 3rd party is it will invariably split the vote.
Well.
So be it.
But if the Conservative Party puts up a conservative candidate every time the 'Pubs run some Democrat in Republican clothing ala Scozzafavia (sp?) it will guarantee the Republicans will NOT get another RINO in DC. It might insure a Dem but ..."Deal with the Devil you know."
Pretty soon the 'Pubs will get the picture that there isn't going to be enough votes to go around and will put up a conservative.
Flip side of this coin is the Conservative just might win. From time to time.

Brian R

Obama campaigned FIVE times there yet Gibbs said he didn't watch the returns? Methinks someone might be telling a little white one there.

Newt... I thought he was named after a cat that had been to the vet's.

Craw

Yep. That's my point-- he's showing chinks in his armor and he cannot like it.

Yeah, I know VA is not the only state like that, but it has become increasinly clear the divide in the last 6 years. The state had been very Red, but (and its mostly NOVA) as these parts move left, they are pulling the rest of the state with them.

Being a Virginian at heart, it is tough to watch.

Sarge

Yeah, dad graduated from Woodrow Wilson High school, I think it was, in Portsmouth. I loved going to the area, because his family was closely attached to the naval yards. It was fun going as a kid and playing around there...

But yeah, I think its probably true all of those were a factor, especially #3. It has to be, and I noticed you said your post from the other day that it absolutely was af actor for you. I am sure you were not the only one to have that attitude. (Don't you wish you would be polled after voting?)

And no, I didn't see Newt do his thing. I am largely oblivious to much going on in the world... Kinda sucks...

Brian

Yeah, I agree. It has to reflect him. It is a must, and he must know it.

Newt (I got better) is a bit of a sad story. he used to be great, but he's lost it...

Buck

Ain't history great?

And yeah, I think he (Obama) hates this election result about as much as he's hated anything, because it is exposing him as vulnerable. Its something he could not conceive of a year ago.

He was packing the house in Germany even, and now, he can't influence all election results at home.

Let me pause, I wonder how p!ssed Axelrod is?

Eternal Vigilance is the Price of

Liberty.

I'm afraid our sentries have been asleep at their posts for some time.

Buck

Yeah, years of prosperity have lowered some guard, I think...

Va. Daddy

Good summary for your own state as the votes poured in. I too love Va., going to college in DC in the '50's and saw Va. quite a bit. What I want to know , is how many state house seats were picked up by the Pubs?? Thanks. Drop by my newest today.

Finalrac

Thanks.

I am not sure the number of house seats gained... I don't think any...

VA is a beautiful state...

I'll be over.

VDad, FinalRac

The GOP held their majority in the house with a least one pickup. A couple of races are too close to call. I make it 61 seats at this point.

There'll be a sixpack of primary races

in 2010 wherein a RINO will square off against a conservative like in the Florida senate race. The conservatives must win those. There also needs to be a true conservative running against Harry Reid in Nevada.

Independents will go for the conservative, but not for the RINO.

VDaddy

Any way you slice it, WE THE PEOPLE sent a message!

Sarge

Thanks for answering that... I thought of state house seats laying in bed last night... Still didn't know that answer, but thanks...

Hope VA can keep its momentum.

Pete

I agree. A conservative will generally beat a moderate... Especially a moderate GOPer...

George

Yes, we did, but we have keep sending it. Politicians have a short memory these days, and many won't take Tues too seriously if we don't back it up with more noise.

VDad

A new short one at my place.

Axelrod

Is it just me or does that guy look like a rat?

Looks like a rat

smells like a rat, acts like a rat.

He must be a rat.

He is scum.

VDaddy

Axelrod is a Hitler look alike...have you noticed? He qualifies as a rat alright...democRAT. Boy he can spin things...

The elections look promising for sure...and the left has a big divide going, so the 2010, 2012 elections could be big for the GOP. Hopefully we will have some really strong conservatives running.

I have to say I am encouraged, even after the Pelosi healthcare stupidity that just passed. Hopefully it will meet with a violent death in the Senate...;)

Brian...;)

"Bat ears"...? That is funny! Man you come up with some real doozies! LOL

Hahaha, Sheila

The name fits, right?

Sheila

Yeah, he does...

And yeah, the dems are looking like they are pretty broken now. The divide is growing, and if last week was any indication, it will only get worse.

HC has a long way to go...

Bat ears

He does have a set, doesn't he?

Brian...;)

That image could cause nightmares... bats with BHO faces on them flying out of caves to take over the world...;) eeeek!

VDaddy...;)

Reminds me of some clips from a movie..."The Day of the Living Dead"...

One phrase struck me,

"...he's a show.."

Yeah. and the "cute" little nephew showing off in front of uncles and aunts is "a show". And after awhile it gets boring.

3 year old or 43 year old it still gets boring.

Buck

a show indeed, and people are starting to get bored. Not obnly have they not seen anything, they are starting to see that what he's about really aint so attractive.

VDaddy...

The bloom is off the rose?
