For God and Country
A War We Can Believe In

I disagree Augsal.
If Americans believed in "fighting and WINNING this war" - we would have reinstated the draft (with no deferments/exemptions) and would have imposed some form of 'War Tax' to pay for it.
A mere few hundred thousand troops and their families are the only ones paying in blood and their lives. The rest of us are told to go SHOPPING.
The 3,000 murdered innocents were butchered by a majority of Saudi freaks. Bin Laden is hiding in and is protected by our ally Pakistan.
Sure, a lot of people in this country 'talk' support - as long as that's all that is asked of them.

On the fence
Some of the points made by Augsal are valid and thought provoking. Marie, how about reading Augsal's comment again as you may feel differently?
I am on the fence here as I feel that some Americans are for the war for the reasons that Augsal mentioned and others are against because they feel that terrorists should be left to blow themselves up! But, unfortunately, they want to blow us up too!
There is a lot of propaganda over here too in respect of this war on terror and it is difficult at times to know what is "truth". Who's interest is it for us to know the truth. Many times we are manipulated because of what we see and read. The reasons for this war seem to vary from week to week.
I wish I had the answers.
I personally feel that anyone who takes part any anti American/British campaigns if they reside in our countries, they should be removed. They have no right to reside in a country for which they are hostile. Hostile as in wanting to harm other citizens of those countries. I cannot understand why we pay for them to live in our countries, some don't even work! Talking of which, I best leave work now as I am starving!

I cannot disagree more. The level of involvement does not necessarily translate into minimum support. The media day after day and night after night said that the "majority of the American people were overwhelmingly in favor of amnesty." This was a front page article in the NY Times, and was the opening remarks on the Today Show and the NBC Evening news. The media could not have been more wrong. And so, the same message is being broadcast and written that the American people are against this war. IT IS NOT TRUE. When ordinary Americans say they support the troops, they support the mission as well. I am a firm believer that you cannot support the troops by trying to surrender and undermine their efforts. That is what is going on. The Democrat party and the Liberal/Leftwing media have decided to protest, hinder and sabotage the war effort. Can I ask you a question? Is there any war in which you would be willing to fight, and support? You belittle support of our troops by the ordinary citizens. I have seen and contributed to many fundraising efforts by ordinary Americans. For example- The local Girl Scouts in my area donated all their cookie sales to the troops. You belittle their efforts and sacrifice.

The following is flying around the internet over here. Not sure it has reached your shores yet. Turd - is excrement (in case you do not use the term!)
"Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional,
illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous
mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is
entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Very good one sir - 'the clean end'.
I do admit to a certain wishful feeling that 'they should be left to blow themselves up' - BUT I agree, they want to blow us up too.
As you say "The reasons for this war seem to vary from week to week. " (what is this week's objective??!!)
These odd jumbled statements, often contradicting each other - most of which come from our administration - cause me to doubt, or at a minimum, question everything they say - I just don't trust ANY of our 'leaders' (Dem or Rep).

Yes, Afghanistan - and, if need be straight on into Pakistan to destroy binLaden. THEN come home. The United States military is not supposed to be about 'nation building' or forcing 'Democracy' on anyone.
I donate often to the 'Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund' as well as 'Fisher House'. This government is NOT taking care of its Vets - not new I realize - ask any Vietnam Vet with liver cancer from Agent Orange.
How is this war being paid for? Who do we owe the trillions of $$$? Why no 'WoT Tax'?--- I hate taxes too, but shouldn't we be paying our own way?
Why no draft? The same troops are being rotated back to Iraq over and over. The troops enlistments are being extended. Where is there in honor in this treatment?
And WHY oh WHY no border security??????? Why attempt to turn our ports over to Dubai??????
The mutts running this country have betrayed the troops and the public.

Glad you like the words and wonder when they will reach the rest of the US. I hope that you have passed this one on because it is incredibly good! I am sure you know how to copy and paste, chuckle.,
Interested in what Augsal will say to above comments, he must be having a snooze! Better watch what I say, chuckle.,
Yes, I agree Marie, our Governments have failed us. I fear that they have actually made things far worse.
All the parties trying to score points against each other has not helped either, they should try and work together to sort this mess up. There is no mistaking we are all in a mess. Hate is everywhere us against them vice versa. I am a peace loving guy but take exception to people to kill my fellow countrymen. Some of these killers have taken as much hospitality as they can from my very own country only to turn and condemn me and my countrymen.

James, I'm afraid sometimes
Augsal would prefer that I shut up and go away.
:D, yes, copy/paste seems an clear way to ,ummm, refer-back.
You have an excellent point. We seem, at least in this country, to slide back into screaming at each other - eg. commie, pinko, lib vs. nazi, racist, neocon. Rather than working on what we can agree on.
And surprisingly, we actually agree on SOME things - most working-class Dems agreed with most working-class Reps. about the disastrous 'Immigration aka Amnesty' bill. I even think most of us agree that the War in Iraq has been woefully mismanaged. And we all want our troops home and safe (tho MAJOR differences as to how and when!)
Many conservatives & liberals can agree to a need for energy independence - LOL , tho getting there is a bit of a disagreement.
I will never EVER understand the radical muslims in England (&Europe). Why on earth move to the decadent West (they bring their families right?) and then attack you? Why not stay in their own little bits of heaven?
oops, I've rambled (American 'english' for running on and on).

James, is afraid

I cannot understand why they come to live in the West either, produce lots of children, then hate us when their children become Western and at times reject their Moslem values. If you bring kids up in the West sometimes they will pick up Western ways and thinking. They come to the West because they love the lifestyle, econony, healthcare and benefits! I must make it very clear I am NOT racist against Moslems etc., I am against any who violate my fellow countrymen especially on our own soil.
If the political parties worked together they could achieve something but, everyone is fighting for the top job and nothing else matters it seems.
I certainly feel that Augsal seems to be warming to you as his comments are much milder toward you.

It's Nice
To let others do the talking once in a while. Marie, I agree with 99.9% of what you've written. Pres. Bush is a complate disappointment to me. Harriet Myers, Dubai, the War and now Immigration. I support our effort in Iraq because it suits our aims. Which is to eliminate terrorists and create a foothold in a place where we can continue this fight. Afghanistan, though important is not as important as Iraq and Iran now too, if you agree with Sen. Lierberman (which I do). I am for anhilating these people off the face of the earth. I am anti-Muslim, I wasn't 8 years ago but I am now. For security reasons alone they should all eb deported or relocated. The border is most troublesome to me. Pres. Bush speaks of national security, creates the dept of Homeland Security, propogates this war but is willing to leave our southern border wide open allowing criminals and TERRORISTS to enter. I agree with both of you this time. But the War in Iraq must be fought now whether you like it or not, because that is where the enemy is. Bin Laden is our enemy but not our only enemy. Islam in its current manifestation is our enemy and if you are a student of history, of which I like to consider myself, Islam has always been our enemy. This is a clash of civilizations the Crusaders were right- kill them ALL!!!
