Salute from an old Airman

I spent my tour of duty during the mid 50s during the cold war era, in an air refueling sqd.doing our rotations in such places as Goose Bay Labrador, and Earnest Harmon Newfoundland.I'm an old timer now,but i still feel the pride that goes with saluting our flag and commending our troops on a job well done. Keep up the excellent work

We rmember you...

Being there myself, six convoys per month for six months, and then, back to paperwork.

Watch your six, and stay strong.

I never know what to say around a Major.

But I am glad you wrote to all of us who are safe at home, and we are also thinking of you. Wish you could post pictures of Paul R Smith. Watch out for that Iraqi espresso. I have heard about Turkish coffee.

Best, Y

Thank You!!

Your blog shows a glimpse of Iraq to those of us (like me) who have never been there. It's sad that it takes the ultimate sacrifice before I know of SFC Paul Smith. I have read up on whatever I can find on the net about him, watched animated reenactment of the tragic event on youtube and even saw his pictures. Now knowing all the details, I realize there are countless soldiers like SFC Paul Smith who are still in Iraq doing the very same thing everyday, like you. I can sense your compassion and dedication to your work just from reading your blog. You are an expert at what they do, doesn't matter if it's done behind a desk, you're still doing your job in Iraq, A Soldier, A Hero... Thank YOU!!!

Tin Soldier

It was enlightening to read your day-to-day account of life in Iraq, by a soldier -- even if you're in the barracks and feel protected. Thank you also for blogging about PFC Paul Smith. Our media is so left wing, that we NEVER hear stories of our brave soldiers. Keep up the good work.

On your sentiments about McCain in George Will's column -- I too, as you know, was so disappointed that Mitt Romney didn't win, that I was going to write him in on the ballot. BUT...as I read and hear about the absolute DANGER our country would be in, if Hillary or Obama wins the election, I guess once again, I have to hold my nose and vote for McCain. I don't have to LIKE it, however...:-)

Take care, and STAY SAFE!!

As Rush Limbaugh says...

Keep your eyes on Bobby Jindal, newly elected Governor of Louisiana. He's already kicking butt there about corruption in a state that's been known for political corruption since the Hewey Long days. He's a person of color too -- Indian by descent -- not that THAT matters to most people, but to 'moderates', it might. Newly elected (in 2006, I think)Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin is also kicking corruption's butt there.

There ARE Conservatives on the horizon, who are young and show promise. Did you hear about the 13 Iraq war vets who are running for Congress this year? If not, Google 'Iraq Vets for Congress', and you'll find their website.

Once again, take care, and BE SAFE!!

Congratulations

on your short time. God Bless, and please remember that there are others with just as much heart, guts, and brains to take care of the "boys" when you leave. I know it's a struggle to leave behind good troops, loving every man and woman on the field of battle. Those that know understand that you fight much more for each other than any other reason. As it should be.
I'll be thinking of you and saying a quiet "Welcome Home" on the 40th day.

most of all

Major Tnsldr2,

Thank you for serving, and thank God you are among the Americans the Iraqis got to see. You and Paul Smith are the US we want the world to know.

And thanks for your posts.

I wish I could show this to every lib

Thank you so much for this moving article.

And thank you for your service to your country,
there are far more of us who appreciate your service than the lame stream media lets you know about.

Hey.

Where's the dam yankee these days?

Tin Soldier...

Thank you, thank you so very much for posting such a piece. I know that our people in uniform are the smartest, most dedicated soldiers in the world, bar none. To know that there are staff officers like you doing their business for them makes me even more confident in our armed forces.

I would that every liberal, anti-war, anti-America, Bush Hater read and believe and understand fully the true nature of our mission and the people who are accomplishing it. But, anything such as your story that is posted on, say, YouTube, or other left leaning site receives thousands of defammatory, insulting, hate filled comments and it is seemingly impossible to get any to really understand. Not so here at Townhall.com.

I am a USAF vet from the Vietnam era and have the most sincere affection and empathy with you and the men you serve with. There are only two things that cause me to choke up and my eyes to tear, and they are 1) the innocent, and 2) the brave. The innocent being children, animals, female victims of abuse, and all victims of crime. The brave being our men and women in uniform and those associated with them, the president in his steadfastness to ideals worth fighting for, and those in whatever profession who willingly sacrifice their lives for the lives of their cohorts and the liberties we here at home enjoy.

In the truest meaning of the term, Semper fi, soldier. Semper fi.

I have never been to your site before; but thank you for honoring these brave young men. My service time was short; ROTC and summer camps from 1969 to 1973 (USAF). I got out when the USAF had an "RIF" in 1973.

Tell everyone over there that the majority of Americans are behind the troops "in Spades". Keep safe.

Thanks

for sharing what's going on with us. I'll always be deeply appreciative and thankful for everything you all are doing. Thanks again.

Thank you recounting the heroism of Sgt Smith. The recognition of his gallantry is fitting but I fear is small compensation to those who will miss him.

I think is a nagging fear among all of us who have faced combat that when faced with the ultimate sacrifice, we will act as a credit to our family and our nation. Obviously, Sgt Smith was more than equal to the task.

The fact that the United States still produces such men is a ray hope for our future.

On a lighter note...

Thinking back to mine time in Vietnam, as a member of 3th Bn. 1st Marines, and comparing it to the privation you describe, I'm inclined to ask if they can use a 62 year old former Sgt.

As I recall the nearest Taco Bell was about 8000 miles away and the air conditioning was non-existent.

BTW, the mortar hasn't been made that can keep me away pizza. HaHaHa!

OUTSTANDING POST!

Fresh Blog Available!

Thanks for the visit!

I totally agree with you on the subject of letting go of the Obama Derangement Syndrome and getting to work on what needs to be addressed, which is once more communicating conservative principles in a clear and cogent manner. Watch the next time I tell people this on TH. Even friendlies are suddenly not so friendly anymore. Not that I will stop doing it.

I enjoyed your article. Living in Alaska, we're surrounded by military bases and a lot of our friends have been deployed. We here back from them some of the details you shared, but your picture was more clear for being in written form. Thank you!
