Sheila: To the Dems
it's still and always will be 2000. Bush "stole" the election, he was "selected, not elected", therefore any stupidity they come up with is okay because Bush's presidency is not and never has been legitimate.
It's really that simple.
Further, the Left has never let facts get in the way of what they see as a good argument. Nothing new there, either.
That's why it's more important than ever that the GOP field good candidates who can clearly define and articulate the philosophical, ideological, and policy differences between the parties instead of just trying to blur those lines, and have the fortitude to actually fight for those beliefs, including standing up and speaking forthrightly to the issues. Cheney's a great example; too bad he's not running.

So well said and so true. We can't let the liars who are reponsible for brainwashing and propaganda get complete control of our lives.
I've always planned on a great retirement, living in the "greatest country on God's green earth." Those years might not be so pleasant if socialism gains ground here.
So, I agree, ignorance is the big enemy.
Well done. I hope everyone reads this.

Hey Dave
Well, it's not the "fringe left" I'm talking about...it's those in POWER on the left, ie Pelosi, Reid, and high profile people like Moore and Gore, who can so easily influence blind followers in the party...it's not the fringe anymore. That's what's so frightening about the dem party.
I do agree that the moderate middle is a concern as well, and the MSM in conjunction with the dem liars, influence the ingnorant middle.
This is a major obsacle to overcome, because the socialist left has it's tentacles everywhere, spreading their propaganda throughout our society.

Thanks...:)
I can't believe what the propagandists get away with these days...even with the alternate media...it shows that the numb skulls have no interest in finding the truth, even though it's easily available to anyone...
Back when Hitler's regime convinced the Germans that the Jews were evil, and should be exterminated, there wasn't the abundance of information there is today.
You can understand closed societies, that control the news and information (such as those in the middle east) brain washing their minions, but for so many here, in an open society to be so brainwashed is downright scary.
It tells me the dems are succeeding in their mind control game to a greater extent than should be possible in an open society...and that is my concern.

Another Smart One!
Hi Sheila,
I'm just cruising the various blogs here on Townhall (Sandra referred me here) and it is very encouraging to know I am not alone in the desire to cure our great country of all this ignorance and voluntary blindness!
I constantly rack my brain (and get these hideous headaches, dang it) trying to figure out how these lefties can possibly be serious in what they assert and believe.
I have a sister claiming to be "moderate" -- she even voted for Bush -- who totally excuses mothers turning their children into murder-suicide bombs. "Well, they have a different culture. They are not evil, they are doing what they believe God told them to do."
Maybe being childless herself, she cannot understand that -- at least in my opinion -- a parent with even a smidgen of love for their child could not do something so heinous. I like to think all humans have an innate love for their own babies to the point where we'd rather die ourselves than see our innocent little ones blown to shreds. (And I'm pretty sure I felt quite protective toward children in general even before having my own.)
Well, I shouldn't be surprised when even partial-birth abortion is somehow a "right" of women these days. All this death culture really creeps me out.
Yes, ignorance is dangerous.

It's a battle we will be fighting the rest of our existance...ignorance. A scary thing...it breeds more ignorance, and eventually servitude.

Thank you. Several times. The moonbats only percieve what their 'fearless (read: brainless?) leaders' want them to percieve, don't they.
"It seems we have an enemy which is in many ways more dangerous than those we face on the battle field. It is the closed minds of those on the left, who believe the lies they tell themselves, and each other."
The enemy is as close to our homes as the nearest grocery store. It's name is public education and it is more destructive than crack. No to civics class, no to history (save some reinvented history), instead of teaching reading, math, personal responsibility, sportsmanship and social skills they teach self-esteem, give gold stars to all, use purple ink, hand out condoms and don't keep score.
The process is begun & nurtured there. It is cemented in college, and leftist college profs turn out 'graduates' with inferior academic and social skills, but overblown & bloated (and yet extremely hypersensitive) ego.
Oh my. tangent, anyone? I apologize.

As a science teacher, it scares me to see what our kids pick up and run with. The global warming scam, endangered animals, a myriad of pop science such as that presented by our wonderful ex vice president, and far too many kids absorb and accept it uncritically. When teachers reinforce what they hear on the media, and then they go to college and hear "professionals" reinforce it, it becomes ingrained and hard to contain. History classes are even worse. Know that there are some of us teachers trying to do better in our small corner classroom, even though its an uphill battle.

what they're doing to the kids with the Green Al krockumentary is criminal...the junk science scare tactics, using animals to make kids feel guilty about "killing the animals"...
we are filling young minds with lies, which as you say are taken as fact without those teaching this hogwash being questioned.

Well, since you inquired...
..I'll give you the details here...
Like I mentioned before, I know a handfull of households that have a piano, but NObody knows how to play. I find it frustrating and sad to see these beautiful instruments lay quiet, not to mention the kids pounding on the keys. So, I decided to learn how to make them (piano) sing.
Last fall, I purchased a keyboard and "Piano for Dummies." Do to a lot of personal trials I put learning the piano on the back burner. As you may know, it takes a lot of concentration to learn an instrument.
Then I re-read one of Mr. "Theodore Dalrymple"'s essays: "We Don't Want No Education." The line that reawoke the bug was: "For to develop an interest requires powers of concetration and an ability to tolerate a degree of boredom while the elements of a skill are learned for the sake of a worthwhile end."
Now I practice for about one to one and a half hours a day for five or six days a week....
I am up to chapter 12 learning chords.....It is really exiciting being able to play some familiar tunes in such a short time....but then again NObody knows I am doing this....
I can play "The Star-Spangled Banner" with my eyes closed.....

You know when I was in HS, I hated history. BOOOOOORIIIIING. Luckily for me, my dad was from the 'I brought you in, I'll take you out' school, and I had to keep my grades up. In conversations with my brothers & their friends a few years ago (my brothers are about 16 yrs younger than I), I hear them say the same things. Then I really have to stop & wonder...
Should I, really, emphasize the importance of them studying history, knowing that what they are being taught is likely a crock of moonbat dung? Makes one wonder. The old 'Those who fail to learn history...' line is well & good, but is that what they are being taught.

I frankly thought Rudy explained his positions very well, they were very well thought out, and detailed, and I think anyone who listens without pre-conceived ideas will come to the same conclusion.
He didn't seem "in your face" at all, I didn't see him "testing the GOP", and I think his position on all the major subjects, guns, abortion, taxes, the WOT, judges, marriage bet.one man and one woman, (he's for domestic partnerships for gays not civil unions, or "marriage" between gays or redefinning the meaning of marriage). On all the issues he made very good sense. He doesn't sound at all extreme on any of the issues.
I think he made sense saying we need to unite, or we will lose again...
whether he will be the nominee, I guess will depend on how many people believe him vs the "interpretation" by others of what he is saying.
Frankly, I can see why the MSM doesn't like him. He could easily beat any of their candidates on intelligence, experience, and the issues. He articulates them very well, (when not beign rudely interrupted by PuffBall)...LOL

I think that some of it is boring
some is how they are taught...I hated high school history too, but loved it in college. In high school we did book questions and watched movies, and even the teacher didn't like history, he was there to coach football.
I had a professor at the University of Idaho who made her own text book, she took exerpts from Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers, speeches of many of the early Presidents and Chief Justices, De Toqueville, all sorts of original sources to teach history. It was very interesting to me, and was a unique approach to studying history, but many kids skipped class most of the time, so it clearly didn't interest all of us.
As for me, I try to get in the content but also make it relevant, active, and interesting. (Its easy with science, especially Biology) There are some kids who will tune it out, but some you reach. I think there is an age factor with most people regarding history, as you get older, and you see more life, you see it repeating itself and understand why you ought to learn it. I am seriously considering getting my masters in US History and teaching Jr College, but I haven't decided yet. (My Bachelors is in Chemistry).
I probably would get fired being a Christian, conservative history professor.

Your comments to J-Dawg about your experience with history in HS vs college are quite interesting...it is really up to the teacher to make it appealing to the students. It sounds like your college professor was a good one and made it intriguing to you, so you wound up liking history after all.
You probably SHOULD consider getting your masters in US History and teaching in Jr. College! We need professors teaching accurate US History, as opposed to those with an anti-American slant...
In your science class are you able to teach the scientific evidence that refutes evolution or do you have to teach evolution as fact?

Because I teach at a Christian school
The way i approach it is to teach evolution in all its detail, then the kids themselves poke holes in it. They have always seen the inconsistencies before I go there. One we go through where evolution works and where it doesn't, we get into alternate theories. When I taught at a public school, this was Verboten. No questioning of the dogma was allowed.
It is interesting that the UC system wants to say that any class that questions evolution is not rigorous enough and should not count as a science class for UC admission. (The case is currently in court) My kids learn critical thinking through this process and they are not allowed to criticize by saying "God did it", they must find holes based on scientific criteria. (and there are plenty)
I also love to tell them how my wavering faith was confirmed when I took genetics, biochemistry and microbiology in college. Even when taught by rabid athiestic professors at The University of Idaho, the nature of cellular life convinced me before there was a formal Intelligent Design theory, that there was far too much complexity and interdependance for life to be the result of random processes.

You are exactly right on the Giuliani speech. There is nothing "in your face" about him or his positions. It is sad that some in our party are on the side of the MSM on this one.
BTW, Brit Hume, Fred Barnes, Charles Krauthammer and even Bill Kristol think that Giuliani has put to rest the inconsistencies that came out in the first debate on abortion. They think that he is a very impressive candidate.
BrianR said, that Chris Matthews and the New York Times came to the same conclusiong that he, Brian, did. Yet he says he's not siding with the MSM.

You're obviously confusing the style of delivery with the substance of the content.
Here's what he said on Friday on the issues:
Gun control: It should be left to local jurisdictions. Well, that's a clear lack of support for the 2nd Amendment. Do we also leave Freedom of Speech, Press, Petition of Redress, search warrants, wiretapping, and all our other civil rights to local jurisdictions? Short answer: no, we don't.
Abortion: Clear statement that he is pro-choice, unequivocal.
Same-sex marriage: He's against it only in the usage of the word "marriage", otherwise he's for it.
Those are the Big Three, and he strikes out on all of them. Three strikes and you're out!
More importantly, Philosophicon raised a very interesting point today at my place. In the UK, the only difference between the Labor and Conservative parties is their position on the war. Other than that they are identical: pro-gun-control, socialized medicine, nanny state government, textbook socialism.
In the UK, the culture war is over, and liberalism won. Is that what you want for here???
BTW, Sandra, I watch the MSM to find out what they're saying, and that's SIDING with them? You'd have made a lousy intel agent. When I went to the Intelligence School, we read Das Kapital and the Communist Manifesto. That's how you find out what the enemy's thinking. Didn't make us commies.
And if the MSM is scratching their heads over Giuliani's stands, that says a mouthful.

Thanks for the information regarding your class. It is so unscientific to not question theories that have so many holes in them, and the bias is clear in government schools. It is indoctrination, pure and simple.
We had a teacher here in my area that was removed from his class and demoted because he dared to expose the students to scientific evidence that refuted the theory. It got me started writing letters to the editor...
I also became acquainted with the Institute for Creation Research in the San Diego area that is a graduate school in Science, which had PHD's who were evolutionists who like you realized there was too much complexity in creation for it to have happened by chance, and the dead end of evolution.
I'm so glad to hear your students have the opportunity to develop critical thinking, and I certainly hope after the 08 election school choice will be available for families...I see a huge difference in home schooled and private school students, as I mentioned before, from friends who's kids aren't in government "indoctrination wards".
Keep up the good work!:)

I am not endorsing anyone at this point, but I have to admitt I heard every word Rudy said and I did not come away with the interpretation Hughe came up with! I was amazed! It's so easy to read things into the comments of someone you oppose, when you've already made up your mind to dislike or distrust them...
It's almost like the intense disdain for Bush.
Anyway, it's way to early to know what's ahead, but on the theme of this piece, "ignorance", all I know is, I want to be totally educated on the "actual" policies of the candidates, not those "atributed to them" by someone with a bias. I want to be my own judge of each candidate...:)

I did hear some new things I definitely liked...he's pro-school choice, and against national healthcare.

The dumbed down people of whom you speak are just the usual ones who think they have all the answers anyway, so why learn anything? I've seen this everywhere I go.
People don't think outside of the box either.
I had an incident recently at work. I threw out some samples of a liquid we had been testing. I was yelled at ferociously for throwing it in the trash.
I was told it was a bio-hazard.
I asked the person yelling at me, "then why are the samples that were tested on humans thrown into the other trash can if it is a bio-hazard?"
I was just stared it like I had two heads.
Moral of the story: Where was there any thought involved?
People don't think, they just react. Thinking is a lost art. Not many people practice it.

"Mix and match"...wish it were that easy...LOL
Well, a big change is going on with Tony Blair resigning...hope Brown will be a strong pro-America prime minister...
One thing is for sure, we need a very strong president who will take the WOT seriously and keep the security measures in place...
The dems need to be booted out, because they will not do the right thing.
I think as Blair said today in the Rose Garden, the global WOT is the greatest challenge of our time.
I think the WOT, and the ignorance we see around us from those who don't care to inform themselves of the truth of what is happening in the world and here at home, will be our biggest challenge from now on into the future...

But, Sheila, don't forget
that while Blair was being all tough on the war and everything, he was also taking away all the guns of UK citizens while at the same time forwarding the cause of total socialization of their society with UHC and other leftist programs.
Kinda like a British Giuliani....

My son has pulled through. Thank God! I can rest now. I've never been so much on the edge as I have this past week. The doctors have pulled him back from the precipice and it looks like he will be coming back to life now. I'm so happy I am crying.
btw, I took my post on nukes down.

We've allowed our children to
be taught WHAT to think instead of HOW to think for themselves. We now graduate students that have never had a course in logic or rhetoric. No core requirements for Literature (real literature), no core requirement for Western Civilization (not the proctologist view of history, the wider truths of civilization). But all students graduate KNOWING that homosexuality is normal, that humanity is a disease infesting the planet, that there is no objective truth, that women and minorities are oppressed, and that Islamofacists are just like us but we don't understand them.
Any wonder we are losing our way when the best and brightest are being fed indoctrination instead being given the tools of reason and comprehension?

Scottie,
You are exactly right...government schools are indoctrination camps. It's a challenge for parents these days...if I had kids, I would be home schooling or sending them to private school.
The challenge of course is the culture, then, that you still have to deal with, and protecting your children from that is a whole other issue...
And higher education is a joke too...I have neighbors whose kids went off to college "normal", and came back total "lefty loons"...

Getting students to think
is sometimes a real challenge....a lot of the time, they simply want an answer to memorize, not the effort of the process of thinking logically, and it takes an extended and consistent effort from the teacher to push them to creatively apply logic and knowledge. But in my opinion, that is what teachers are paid for, to give students knowledge, then require them to use it logically.
