another point to add
Is that many of the "47 million without insurance" at any given time are normally not without it for very long (sometimes just days or a few weeks) because they are shifting careers or leaving their parent's insurance plan to get on their own, are in the middle of changing policies, or will obtain insurance from a state plan.
So it isn't even a completely accurate figure. It is actually quite misleading.

Calculated Risk: You get it
Medical education is supported through federal funding (intern/resident). The problem is proprietery hospitals do not provide or support education. To promise healtcare to everyone through mandate and not and not address the ifrastructure of the educational process is irresponsible.
It directly affects the quality of the education and the quantity ofmedica practicing medical professionals. At present, there are only 2 government run healthcare plans, Medicare and the VA. Such a broad and illconcieved plan will devastate the free enterprise of healthcare and reduce medical education opportunities.
What Obama fails to consider is that many people do not "chose" to participate in healthcare on a regular basis, and does not require a full coverage plan. We will waste taxpayers money and reduce personal choice by these plans. Secondly, his plan does not address the self employed individual who may be an LLC. or sole prop of a service company who will not receive government assistance to purchase the plan that he offers.
