Not only....

...has Our friend, tv, changed over the years, but they're so arrogant in their transgressions that his "big brother" has now made it mandatory to pay for his company.

I say,"Farewell, tv. I hardly knew ya."

Luckily....

...I've found a new friend....and his name is "the internet." It's not all about him. He actually listens to me, We conversate at times.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I agree with both your comments.

I have not watched TV in over 10 years. Nothing but garbage on the Networks. Your new friend is also my new friend.

Tis REALLY a Happy New Year without our old friend.

DeanD. Winner! Walter Williams Award

for gentle, acetic wit. When Professor Walter scorches tail feathers, the victim laughs with gusto until he realizes thet the seat of his pants is on fire.

Brilliant satire!

TV

Well, since I have the new HD stuff via the set, and I am a Fox only viewer plus the old flickers and sports, I will not be leaving the source for liberal evil. I still want to know my enemy and rant against it. I understand your view and approve especially if you read more and blog more.

I do have TV, but don't watch fluff

on it. I have FOX running more than anything else, a couple of Pastors I really like, Discovery Health Channel, How'd they do that and I have a bunch of documentary dvd stuff that I get from Wallbuilders, American Family Association, Worship Network, and other worthwhile sources. I haven't watched TV/TV for years. I do love to read..........and of course, get on the net to troll the blogsites, etc.

I understand your banning TV. Their normal programming is a waste. Good post Dean.

Klem

Thank you very much for the kind words Sir! Coming from you they mean even more.

Happy New Year!

Rackoons

I must admit that I am exposed to the one-eyed-demon at work, but mainly Fox news and the weather channel.

I suppose it is valuable for keeping an eye on the enemy, but I have a problem with becoming violently ill when I am exposed to too much of it in one sitting!

Happy New Year and thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Bobbie

Thanks for the kind words. I do understand watching the programming you mentioned. As you stated so well, "TV/tv" is not worth watching and I have not done so in years either.

Happy New Years, enjoy your break and relax!

No TV...No Problemo

Too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing...I quit watching years ago. It separates you from embracing life. Not that mine is all that great however I do joke when I'm caught talking to myself at work I like my own company... go away I'm okay.

Cindy

LOL, thanks, I also appreciate solitude. I'll have to remember that line. =)

TV...One of the great American evils.
We cancelled our cable over 7 yrs. ago, and do not regret getting rid of the trash that was being broadcasted. We are very selective in our television viewing...
Now that the Gov't is taking over the TV waves via Digitalizing, it is another Gov't control and intrusion. The digital signal comes in sometimes, it is not as reliable as 'rabbit ears.'
Internet has been our resource for news and research. We can choose what we read and see. That is Freedom. Hope the Gov't doesn't get it's hands on it.
Good post, Dean.

Jennifer

I agree with your observations about the internet, if the Gov ever gets involved it will be ruinous.

The digital conversion has no effect on me as I haven't watched analog tv at home in years either.

Thanks for the kind words and adding your thoughts to the discussion!

I still watch but am very selective...

...but its difficult. Even w/kid shows that are ok all of a sudden you have a commercial where they talk openly about erectile dysfunciton!! And your kids have just learned 2 new words and start asking you what it means. I rarely even watch Fox anymore, either. Mostly old movies and I'm forced to watch what my 2 year old watches. Wow Wow Wubbzie, Max and Ruby, Oswald, etc. They're all fairly wholesome shows.
I do recommend A&E's the The First 48 Hours. It is awesome to watch these big city police homicide detectives work. I fully recommend that show. DD

We are definitely in danger of freedom of communicating.

DD

One of the main reasons for my dismissal of TV in general is the total lack of morals it presents. That, along with the political and ethical undertones that are totally against all I believe in.

Hollyweird and their ilk are also not welcome in my home for the most part. It is getting harder and harder to find a movie worth the time to watch let along the price.

Happy New Year Bud!

Cindy

Yep, one of the first steps to subduing a populace is to control their means of communication. Controlling the press and education system goes hand in hand with that. We are WAY behind on fighting this menace, I hope more people wake up before it is too late.

TV

I have cable but the only thing I watch is sports and every once in a while a movie. I get most of my news from the internet. TV is definatly not what it once was.

Very Fitting Eulogy!

Well done, Dean D, very entertaining and well written! There has been very little worthwhile on the toob for a very long time. We have a dish and watch Fox and Bloomberg. We also watch a lot of old movies, with good dialogue such as, "Shane, come back!" on our VCR!

EJR

Your TV watching habits seem to follow the current trend, at least as far as conservatives go.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Have a Happy New Year!

DawnDawn

Thank you, I do try.

I have discovered that poetry is not my forte though. LOL

"Shane, come back!" Classic, I agree. =) Why can't they make em like they used to???

Tootles to TV

This was a good post. I miss the old tv. I am so tired of the all the reality stuff. Why is that so popular?

I did grow up in the MTV age and that channel has gone down hill and I can't even say the last time I turned that on in the last decade. I remember running to the VCR and hitting record when a good video came on! Oh those were the days.

Now I can't really find anything on. I just watch Law and Order and NCIS and nothing else. Okay, I do watch the Murder She Wrote reruns.

As for news, just Fox. I click through the others for half a second, get ill and keep going.

I also remember years and years ago when there was no remote control. My sister would sit by the tv and she would change it for us. But then again, there were only 3 main channels.

Sue

TV has definitely changed and not for the better IMO.

We had 4 stations if you count PBS =/ Ahhhh, yes, the Pravda Bull $hiite station. I never saw cable TV until after I joined the military. I remember hearing in wonder for the first time about HBO while I was stationed in Korea. LOL, times sure have changed.

Dean D.

I was four or five when my dad bought the first TV in our neighborhood. Three stations, (Wichita) and the programs all had the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. Not now.

I have fiber and watch Fox news, Investigative Discovery (law enforcement) and some History Channel. I've never seen House, the Simpsons, American Idle, or other such garbage. I love Turner Classic Movies. But, I really miss the days of radio theater. The Six Shooter, Gunsmoke with Wm. Canon, The Shadow, The Green Hornet, Battling Bickersons, etc.

TV has become another brainwashing tool of the left. As Capt. McCall said in Lonesome Dove, "Can't stand rudeness in a man, won't tolerate it"

I love your post.

Somewhere Back About The Time

They started inserting mechanical laughter to tell you when a situation was funny, you begin to realize it wasn't.
I can sit through a whole evening's schedule of "comedy" shows and not crack a smile.
There are scripts about everything written by people who know nothing.
Every program and half the commercials trumpet homosexual values. Chaste teens in the situation comedies are as rare as an honest Democrat.
You say, "Should you ever decide to change your ways and return to a moral, just, and patriotic attitude let me know and I might consider renewing our acquaintance."
I say, "Yeah, don't wait around."

Glenn

There sure used to be some good programming on the ol' Tube. I can't say much for the offerings now though.

"Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval", that takes me back a few years! I don't think it exists anymore let alone be awarded to any program today.

Buck

Thanks for adding to the discussion. Canned laughter sure was a tip off, that's for sure.

I won't be holding my breath on TV changing.

I think TV is dead but just does not have the decency to have a proper funeral and go lay down.

TV is Dead.

Whether you consider it a suicide or not is the same as, "is a druggie's overdose suicide?"
Back in its heyday this was predicted by several but the only one I can remember was an article in a weekly newsmag about ...where is television going.. and it refers to tv's "voracious appetite" for new programming.
After Lucy and Desi and the Honeymooners and a few others...all the REAL comedy had been used up. Sex and perversion substituted for originality. Now political agendas also surround the plots of comedy and drama alike until television is nothing more than a propaganda mill for perversion, left wing political and athiest dogma.

Buck

An excellent, concise, summation of the demise of TV. Thanks!

The strange case of

Dr. Telly and Mr. Vision.

There are still some good things about television, as noted, but they are more commonly being crowded out of the running (and ratings) by the 'dark side of man'. Poor Dr. Telly was poisoned, but because he chose to willingly take the poison, he has no choice but to take the blame for Mr. Vision's ruthless assaults on the public.

I pose a question to the rest of you - exactly when and where do you think the downhill slide started? We've already had one answer, in the form of the automatic laugh track. I'm not quite sure what my own answer would be (I've never personally watched that much tv to begin with, although I'll admit to being something of a video game afficionado).

Canned Laughter

An exercise in Pavlovian theory.

Ender

I like your Dr. Telly & Mr. Vision analogy. You expose the typical liberal blame game/victim reaction to anything that goes wrong.

I think the downfall of TV has it's roots in the late 60s with newscasts featuring combat footage from Vietnam. That was the start of "shock tv", prior to that TV showed restraint and descency. I think the continual parade of combat and its resultant casualties led to a deadening of the morality of average American viewers. It also helped to hasten the downfall of South Vietnam.

Another contributor was cable TV. I think the loss of viewership to cable caused the networks to increase their shock value on shows to try and recapture an audience.

Dean

Clever way of portraying this "friend".
I love it !! I tee'd off on the TV set in my very 1st blog. The downfall of society...now that would be great to see on TV, CAUSED by TV.

Great Post!!

Jason

Jason

Thanks for the kind words and for stopping by.

I'll go check out your previous post as soon as I can. While not a really important subject in our crazy times right now it is interesting how many people have expressed their disdain for network TV here.
