Our Fate

Great article. You have the big picture, but unfortunately few do, and that's the problem. All we can do is hope the masses wake up before it's too late.

The lying liberal media is doing their damnest to hide the truth from the American people.

Both Sides

Just last week I heard a fellow conservative spouting this same argument.. that Israel is the cause of all our problems. We normally call this the Stockholm Syndrome. We blame ourselves, the victims, for an attack on us. "It must be our fault. If only we talked to them."
Israel may not be the perfect ally, but they are the only true Western democracy in the region. We have to support them in this fight against a centuries-old, resurgent enemy of civilization. Do the people of Darfur support Israel? How about the Russians? No, this war is about non-Muslim civilizations.
Let us remember the admonition of God to fight to protect Jerusalem.

Why Is This Tiny Little Country Hated?

This is a very in-depth article relating how both extremes (Left and Right) have an inbred dislike, perhaps even hatred of Israel. Truth is, Israel is the only true democracy in the Middle East and has had to fight a succession of wars to even exist (1948, 1956, 1967, 1973, 1982 and 2006). You might say that the recent exchange with Hezbollah was the closest thing to a defeat they have suffered, and thus they have placed themselves at great risk. You can GUARANTEE there will be another attempt by Iran, and some of the Arabic nations, to take advantage of a perceived weakness on the part of Israel. If Israel were to take the gloves off, and not worry about world sentiment (which is going to hate and condemn them regardless of whether they take action or do not) they would be much more successful militarily, yet they keep electing liberal politicians that want to compromise their way into security. That doesn't work, according to history (ask Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Hitler's other peaceful conquests) and Israel may be forced to finally be agressive and proactive. The ability of their submarines to launch cruise missiles seems the most likely possibility, at least as far as Iran is concerned...

The "liberal" media isn't Liberal

I wish everyone would just wake up to the fact that the liberal media is a myth. Does anyone out there listen to Fox? Rush? Hannerty? Coulter? Have you ever searched through this site at the plethera of conservative radio station contacts?

Stop whinning, and wake up. The media serves those in power, it's about MONEY not ideology. They've got you chasing your own tail.

Over Two Dozen Nuke Threats By the U.S.

Shortly after I returned from World War 2 President threatened to nuke the Soviets to accelerate their departure from Northern Iran which they had occupied during the war even setting up a Quisling/type government. Ike threatened Red China to get them to negotiate an end to the war in Korea. At the time both nations lacked a nuclear arsenal. Since they now have acquired such capability nobody, not even us, have threatened them since. This proves that if you have nuclear retaliatory ability you will not be intimidated or threatened by anyone. Neither Bush nor Blair would have attacked Saddam if they truly believed he had nukes. They knew the inspectors had essentially disarmed the Iraqi leader. But by knowing this it guaranteed we would attack him believing it would be a cake-walk, slam dunk affair. I am not surprised by the insurgency against our troops. Thousands of Iraqis have died during both U.S. wars against them and the decade long sanctions which killed thousands more. All these victims have friends and family members who suffered from the U.S. wars waged against them and it is they who are now not only killing our kids but also anyone else following a different religious creed. Mmaybe this is a success story as there are many who are happy to see them kill each other. The insurgents may prefer to fight us over there rather than on our own turf because they have a home-field advantage.

RE: Over two dozen nuke threats by US

Parry,
If I remember correctly (and this is not at all certain, since I have much on my mind these days), Bush insisted that Saddam Hussein had not dismantled his WMD programs in accordance with UN resolutions. Thus, the purpose of the strike against Saddam was not to destroy his "nukes," but to prevent him from ever developing a functional nuclear intercontinental ballistic missle or any other Weapon of Mass Destruction. Your assertion that the US (nor any other REASONABLE nation) would not so boldly invade a nation with such capability is entirely correct. It is, however, the RIGHT answer to the WRONG question. I would not assign the adjective "REASONABLE" to nations like Iraq, under Sodamn Insane, North Korea, under Ding Dong ILL, or Iran, under the apocalypticly delusional AhmaBuildaBomb.
Also, just fyi, 1: none of the 9-11 hijackers, as you on the Left are so quick to point out, were Iraqis and Iraqi "terrorists" are not attacking any American interests anywhere of which I'm aware; so I'm not really sure just what on earth you're getting at on that comment. 2: One of the weaker arguments (though, I think, still valid) of Bush in favor of the invasion of Iraq was that Saddam's alleged WMD program represented a threat to U.S. security in that it could end up in the hands of Al-Qaida terrorists. I'm not even interested in evaluating the merits of this argument and find it rather irrelevant; Saddam Hussein represented a threat to our interests for a very long time and should have been removed during the first Gulf War. 3: The UN inspectors did NOT "disarm" Saddam. The U.S. disarmed him in the first Gulf War. The job of the inspectors was to ensure that Saddam was not re-arming. They claimed that he had not re-armed and it now seems as though they were correct. It also seems that those heavy-handed (and, I agree, terribly inhumanitarian) sanctions managed to make rearmament prohibitively expensive for Saddam. That, however, didn't stop him from selling Oil-for-Food vouchers to friends, family and supporters of Kofi Annan in order to afford him the construction of luxurious palaces, iconic tributes to himself, lavish amenities, etc, while his people languished in poverty. But, I'm a bit stumped as to just how you would propose going about disarming (and keeping this nut disarmed) without either military engagement (or at least the threat of it) or economic sanctions. The Left's weak recommendation of "diplomacy" is precisely the reason Ding Dong ILL just recently successfully tested a nuclear weapon. The only rational conclusion one can come to is that, given the track-record of so called "diplomacy" and the hostile opposition of the Left to military engagement or economic sanctions, the Left isn't interested in a "better way" to disarm dangerous tyrants, but a kinder and gentler Western capitulation to the nuclear ambitions of these fascists. Are you French by any chance?

RE: The liberal media isn't liberal

Voice of Treason here has managed to find proof of the vast rightwing conspiracy! Indeed! Out of several network news channels, ONE is debatably Conservative leaning. Voice, to quote a popular Libertarian (not "Conservative") media figure, John Stossel, "GIVE ME A BREAK!"

Addendum

Just FYI, Voice of treason: Ann Coulter is a Conservative guest speaker on various radio and television shows (both Conservative and Liberal, though mostly Conservative). She's not employed by any network (of which I'm aware.) She's also a very intelligent and witty writer...not to mention drop-dead gorgeous. I can't say the same of too many Liberal guest speakers on any of the half-dozen or so LIBERAL media networks, whose ugliness is matched only by the burning intensity of their irrational hatred of traditional values and mores. In fact, many a blonde Liberal will undoubtedly benefit from the merciless annihilation of the "dumb blonde" stereotype evident in her work. Did I mention she's gorgeous?

CAN/WILL A REPUBLICAN EVER WIN Again

We as Americans will swear allegiance to each other. Our leaders will have to swear their allegiance

Israel has received a grand total of $84.8 billion, excluding the $10 billion in U.S. government loan guarantees it has drawn to date.

And if you calculate what the U.S. has had to pay in interest to borrow this money to give to Israel, the cost of Israel to U.S. taxpayers rises to $134.8 billion, not adjusted for inflation.

Put another way, the nearly $14,630 every one of 5.8 million Israelis had received from the U.S. government by October 31, 1997, cost American taxpayers $23,241 per Israeli. That's $116,205 for every Israeli family of five.

None of these figures include the private donations by Americans to Israeli charities, which initially constituted about one quarter of Israel's budget, and today approach $1 billion annually. In addition to the negative effect of these donations on the U.S. balance of payments, the donors also deduct them from their U.S. income taxes, creating another large drain on the U.S. treasury.

Nor do the figures above include any of the indirect financial costs of Israel to the United States, which cannot be tallied. One example is the cost to U.S. manufacturers of the Arab boycott, surely in the billions of dollars by now. Another example is the cost to U.S. consumers of the price of petroleum, which surged to such heights that it set off a world-wide recession during the Arab oil boycott imposed in reaction to U.S. support of Israel in the 1973 war.

Other examples are a portion of the costs of maintaining large U.S. Sixth Fleet naval forces in the Mediterranean, primarily to protect Israel, and military air units at the Aviano base in Italy, not to mention the staggering costs of frequent deployments to the Arabian Peninsula and Gulf area of land and air forces from the United States and naval units from the Seventh Fleet, which normally operates in the Pacific Ocean.

We all are aware of the suffering our own people
are/have been going though, from KATRINA and other such disasters. No more disproportionate
AID.

Let your representatives know the demands.

Public awareness from Public forums, not

The Republican Party has no principles, ethics,

The only thing you have is Rove Trickery,
administrative corruption, and foreign

That is why we see nothing constructive from a
republican candidate. Just attack adds, and

You no longer can hide behind the cloak of

good with-in your Party anymore.

Save your funds, you are all washed up
as far as the American people go.

Of course you have AIPAC, ISRAEL & MOSSAD
left as the only Allies you will muster-up..

Since the 9/11 attacks, Bush has overseen a bare-knuckled political strategy of bullying anyone who disagrees with him and marginalizing their voices. From the Dixie Chicks to former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, from France to United Nations weapons inspectors, those who have dared to cross the President have faced ridicule and reprisals.

Instead of encouraging a full-and-free debate about an issue as important as war and peace, Bush made clear that he saw nothing wrong with his followers punishing Americans who disagree with him.The President coordinated with powerful media allies to silence dissent.

With anti-Americanism across the Middle East now often registering in the 90 percentiles, Bush’s strategy is more likely to accelerate Islamic extremism than put a brake on it.

Bush’s exhortations about human freedom therefore are galling to many in the world who see Bush himself as the world’s most notorious autocrat, violating international law at his personal whim and overriding the constitutional liberties of Americans at home.

The bottom line for Bush’s “war on terror” is that it won’t just cost countless lives and hundreds of billions of dollars; it also is doomed to fail, at least as presently constituted. If it lasts much longer, it is certain, too, to deliver a death blow to the noble American Republic.

Suddenly, the Israeli connection is on the table, and the War Party is not amused. Finding themselves in an unanticipated firefight, our neoconservative friends are doing what comes naturally, seeking student deferments from political combat by claiming the status of a persecuted minority group. People who claim to be writing the foreign policy of the world superpower, one would think, would be a little more manly in the schoolyard of politics. Not so. President Bush had become a client of … Ariel Sharon and the ‘neoconservative war party.

Indeed, it is the charge of “anti-Semitism” itself that is toxic. For this venerable slander is designed to nullify public discourse by smearing and intimidating foes and censoring and blacklisting them and any who would publish them. Neocons say we attack them because they are Jewish. We do not. We attack them because their warmongering threatens our country. This time the boys have cried “wolf” once too often. It is not working. Quit playing the “Anti-Semitic Card.”

“The Likudniks are really in charge now.” Kaiser names Perle, Wolfowitz, and Feith as members of a pro-Israel network inside the administration and adds David Wurmser of the Defense Department and Elliott Abrams of the National Security Council.

We charge that a cabal of polemicists and public officials seek to ensnare our country in a series of wars that are not in America’s interests. We charge them with colluding with Israel to ignite those wars and destroy the Oslo Accords. We charge them with deliberately damaging U.S. relations with every state in the Arab world that defies Israel or supports the Palestinian people’s right to a homeland of their own. We charge that they have alienated friends and allies all over the Islamic and Western world through their arrogance, hubris, and bellicosity.

They charge us with anti-Semitism. False. The truth is, those hurling these charges harbor a “passionate attachment” to a nation not our own that causes them to subordinate the interests of their own country and to act on an assumption that, somehow, what’s good for Israel is good for America.

On Sept. 11, their time came. They seized on that horrific atrocity to steer America’s rage into all-out war to destroy their despised enemies, the Arab and Islamic “rogue states” that have resisted U.S. hegemony and loathe Israel.

On Sept. 12, Americans were still in shock when Bill Bennett told CNN that we were in “a struggle between good and evil,” that the Congress must declare war on “militant Islam,” and that “overwhelming force” must be used. Bennett cited Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and China as targets for attack. Not, however, Afghanistan, the sanctuary of Osama’s terrorists. How did Bennett know which nations must be smashed before he had any idea who attacked us?

On Sept. 20, forty neoconservatives sent an open letter to the White House instructing President Bush on how the war on terror must be conducted. Signed by Bennett, Podhoretz, Kirkpatrick, Perle, Kristol, and Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer, the letter was an ultimatum. To retain the signers’ support, the president was told, he must target Hezbollah for destruction, retaliate against Syria and Iran if they refuse to sever ties to Hezbollah, and overthrow Saddam. Any failure to attack Iraq, the signers warned Bush, “will constitute an early and perhaps decisive surrender in the war on international terrorism.”

Here was a cabal of intellectuals telling the Commander-in-Chief, nine days after an attack on America, that if he did not follow their war plans, he would be charged with surrendering to terror. Yet, Hezbollah had nothing to do with 9/11. What had Hezbollah done? Hezbollah had humiliated Israel by driving its army out of Lebanon.

President Bush had been warned. He was to exploit the attack of 9/11 to launch a series of wars on Arab regimes, none of which had attacked us. All, however, were enemies of Israel. “Bibi” Netanyahu, the former Prime Minister of Israel, like some latter-day Citizen Genet, was ubiquitous on American television, calling for us to crush the “Empire of Terror.” The “Empire,” it turns out, consisted of Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, Iraq, and “the Palestinian enclave.” What had they done to the United States? The War Party was desperate to get a Middle East war going before America had second thoughts.

In February 2003, Sharon told a delegation of Congressmen that, after Saddam’s regime is destroyed, it is of “vital importance” that the United States disarm Iran, Syria, and Libya.

What these neoconservatives sought is to conscript American blood to make the world safe for Israel. They want the peace of the sword imposed on Islam and American soldiers to die if necessary to impose it. WELL plenty of Americas finest have given their BLOOD for Israeli benefit. What benefit has all this mess been for America.? Are we safer from terrorist? 911, what do we know for sure?

The neocons seek American empire, and Sharonites seek hegemony over the Middle East. The two agendas coincide precisely. And though neocons insist that it was Sept. 11 that made the case for war on Iraq and militant Islam, the origins of their war plans go back far before.

The principal draftsman is Richard Perle, an aide to Sen. Scoop Jackson, who, in 1970, was overheard on a federal wiretap discussing classified information from the National Security Council with the Israeli Embassy. Perle had taken substantial payments from an Israeli weapons manufacturer.

In the Perle-Feith-Wurmser strategy, Israel’s enemy remains Syria, but the road to Damascus runs through Baghdad. Their plan, which urged Israel to re-establish “the principle of preemption,” has now been imposed by Perle, Feith, Wurmser & Co. on the United States.

While many of these hawks speak in public about global crusades for democracy, the chief concern of many such “neo-conservatives” is the power and reputation of Israel.

Secretary of State Rice is now reported to have adopted some of the ideas of Colin Powell, her predecessor, and wants to press for some kind of success on the Israel-Palestine problem. But her old employee, Elliott Abrams, is opposing her from his seat as Deputy National Security Advisor for Global Democracy Strategy. Abrams has become the chief successor to the neocons in the Pentagon and State Department, almost all of whom have have since left government, though they remain influential. His real job seems to be to protect the interest of the Israel lobby in the White House.

Badly damaged by his felony conviction for lying to Congress about his role in the Iran-Contra affair, Abrams, like many neo-cons, left government service under the decidedly "realist" administration of President George H.W. Bush and spent the 1990s at various think tanks. There, he helped forge the coalition -- epitomised by Kristol's Project for the New American Century (PNAC) of which he was a charter member -- of mainly Jewish neo-conservatives, the Christian and Catholic Right, and aggressive nationalists that would seize control of U.S. policy after 9/11.

Reply to Butch

I didn't read your whole post. You make some valid points and others just seem conspiracy theorizing. The power of PACs is well documented and AIPAC is hardly an exception. I very much doubt their power could push an unwilling country into war. The U.S. has had great interest in the Middle East since oil was discovered there. It has worked its policy in its best interest; sometimes coinciding with the interests of Israel and more often NOT coinciding. The U.S. has also paid out billions to Arab regimes to bribe them into conforming to U.S. wishes. This is nothing out of the ordinary. You don't need to do much to convince me that the U.S. has no obligation toward the State of Israel. The U.S., in my opinion, has done as much to harm the interests of Israel as to support it and the entire Middle East would be better off if the U.S. and everyone else would just butt out. That will not likely happen and as long as it doesn't, we can expect the government to waste many billions more of our tax dollars in fruitless efforts to "stabilize" the region.
Oddly enough, my friend, not too long after establishing this blog I discovered that my political beliefs are more in line with Libertarianism than with Conservatism. When idiots on the far right and left talk of "neo-cons" they are generally talking about Jews. You can deny that all you wish. We're used to being blamed for all of the problems you jackasses get yourselves into. Nothing new there, but you'll have to create a new name for Jewish Libertarians when addressing me. LOL. How foolish is it to believe that the U.S. has had no interest in which it has wasted billions of tax-payer dollars on in the Middle East besides "defending" some pissant Jewish state? And, what, pray tell, is the U.S. getting out of it? Particularly the Republican party? Are our politicians under some Sheeny spell? The last I checked, 80% of Jewish voters vote Democrat. Nothing Dubya or any other Republican is likely to ever do will shake that obnoxious tendency of American Jews to vote with the Left. So, if Dubya is (and I don't see it) acting solely in the interests of the "evil Zionists" he must be doing so out of some bizarre Evangelical belief that it will win him brownie points in heaven. I can't hold any Jews accountable for that claptrap. As to your call for Jews to be "Americans First," I'll say this: When the U.S. stops all meddling in the Middle East and all funding of Israel's enemies, I'll support cutting funding to Israel. Cutting funding only to Israel is not a simple act of fiscal policy. It is an obvious posture in favor of its Arab enemies. You on the far right know that and people are keen to point out the streak of anti-semitism apparent in such a treacherous proposal.
I have never in my life asked an Irishman to be "an American first" when witness to his concern for his homeland and I doubt you have either. That Jews are routinely asked this with the obvious presumption that they are inherently treasonous by merit of having been born a Jew, tells me that no matter what a Jew does, he'll never be regarded as an American by the likes of people like you.
Despite the vast propaganda to the contrary, this country and the West did NOTHING to aid Israel in its birth. She had to acquire the means of survival on her own, often at exorbitant prices. Whether she could survive without the current amount of aid is debatable. You probably think she can't and can't wait for that cheap oil to flow over her corpse. I don't pretend to know the answer to that question. All I know is that no one has the responsibility to fight for her survival but Israel herself. If she has become too dependant on that aid, I fear for the worst, because this country will sell her out eventually. Won't be the first time we've sold out declared allies and it won't be the last.
Conservatives talk a good talk about limited government, and yet they make endless excuses for the astronomical amount of resources the American government has wasted overseas to secure our "economic prosperity, security, etc." Our poor image around the world was bought with many hundreds of billions of our tax dollars. The answer is not a Republican government (they spend as much if not more than the damned Democrats). The answer is the emasculation of the government. We need to get back to the days when the government had to beg for funds for its chicanery, but the Republicans along with their frat brothers in the Democratic party are doing a great job of making sure that our children will be slaves to the state.
If anyone wants to return this country to the GREATNESS it has LOST, I highly recommend reading F.A. Hayek's "Road to Serfdom" before the socialists in both parties ban it. Well that's my shtick for now. God Bless you, my errant friend, and God Bless America.

Hello From Ambridge

Hi: Hi: I’m Steve Maloney from Ambridge, Pennsylvania, and I have a blog on Townhall.com. It’s accessible at http://www.camp2008victory.townhall.com. I hope you’ll visit it as I’ve visited your blog or other site. I’m very interested in supporting bloggers from PA and adjoining states. Tell me how I can help you build up the number of visitors to your site. My blog talks about political and social issues, with an emphasis on electing conservative candidates in Pennsylvania and elsewhere. Over the years, I’ve written on political subjects for many publications, including Fortune, Newsweek, and The National Review. I was heavily involved in Diana Lynn Irey’s 2006 campaign against John Murtha. Many people ask me what Diana’s up to these days, and you can check that out at http://www.irey.com. Please visit my blog and leave your comments if you’d like. Here’s the excerpt from today’s column.

If you’re a Democratic candidate statewide or in a district outside Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, how do you get elected? You run on the proposition that you’re in favor of the rights of the unborn, gun owners, and labor unions. You’ll also say regularly that you “support the troops,” although you’ll be vague about how you can do so while denigrating their mission. You’ll talk about the need for fiscal restraint, but that won’t apply to “pork” projects benefiting either your district or that of a political ally. In most cases, you’ll proudly note that you’re a Christian, usually a Roman Catholic (like Congressman Jason Altmire, Senator Bob Casey, and even yours truly). You’ll demonstrate regularly that you’re a big fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers (like Altmire) or the Philadelphia Eagles (like Governor Ed Rendell). When you cast a vote in Congress that your constituents might not like, you’ll remain silent about your reasoning on the subject. You’ll maintain extremely close relations with Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Party’s liberal leadership, and you’ll vote with them on critical issues. In cases where your vote is not needed, they'll let you cast a vote that establishes your credentials as a “conservative.” You’ll look at your elected office as a lifetime position, and you will do everything necessary to retain it. During your many years in Congress, you'll never do anything to offend John Murtha, who has a long memory. You will have long and relatively happy life. Is this a caricature? No, it's very reliable advice on career planning.

The Hated Nation

Jehovah promised the people of Israel nearly three thousand years ago that they would always endure the hatred of other nations. There is a simple reason for this: Satan despises the Jews above all others. As the Prince of the Power of the Air, (ruler of the earth), He holds authority to bring all of mankind against God's chosen people. The second part of the promise was equally simple: should Israel obey Jehovah and honor His will, they would prevail against Satan's persecution. Should they disobey and turn from God however, He would remove His hand of protection from them.

That being said, I believe that the Nation of Israel has returned to their ancestral lands for a reason. The Bible clearly describes their restoration hundreds of times, such as in this passage:

Jeremiah 30:3: "For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it."

I believe firmly that the battles and conflicts which we're now watching unfold each day in the Middle East are part of a grander scheme--one which revolves around Israel. They are the chosen people of old, the bloodline of the Christ, and the future residents of Jesus' throne on earth--Jerusalem. In your careful observations of political tides, do not forget to check the bigger picture!
