The South Was Stupid to Secede...
in 1861. I am a Southerner (who has studied the Civil War for over 40 years) and can say this. At the time, we (the South) controlled the US Senate. We should have stayed in the Union and fought it out in the US Congress. Today (2009), secession should be the "Last Fatal Act of Defiance", and only put into "play" for reasons of a Constitutional crisis (gun confiscation, forced euthanasia, etc.).
Now for the "Potpourri Pot":
I am thinking along the lines of the Constitutional crisis, so therefore:
"Molon labe!"
And the nice thing is that the above quotation works so well with just about any "Constitutional crisis". You have to hand it to the Greeks. Not only do they give the Western world so many things (democratic government, advanced mathematics, etc.); but also they give us a great "come back" of defiance.

She was calling to help me get 'rid of my credit card debt'. Now Mr. MD and I have that debt because we put our vacation on plastic, then pay it off when we get home.
I told the twinkie that I wasn't interested. After she insisted she could help us I dropped a bomb on her. Something she probably never heard before and probably never will again. "This is my debt. It's a contract between us and our credit card company that we intend to fulfill and pay in full." Her reaction? Your kidding, right?
Oversight. Another word to watch out for.
Integrity severely lacking in this world.
Insightful, thought-provoking, rant producing. Mrs.AL's blog.........priceless ;-}

Today's morning drive radio rant
by a local host, Mike Broomhead (No joke, that's his real name), on bipartisanship is worth sharing.
Pittsburgh beat the Arizona in the Super Bowl. We didn't hear the Cardinals crying because the Steelers wouldn't let them carry the trophy too. Why should they? Pittsburgh won.
Republicans are complaining about the Democrats lack of bipartisanship. Why? They lost. The Dems won, and don't need to share.
The question I have ---
We also didn't hear a peep from any Pittsburgh player that none of the Cards would help them carry that heavy old trophy. Why would they want their help? Arizona lost.
So, why are the Dems whining about the GOP's lack of bipartisanship?

That was then, Gray Ghost, and this is now IMHO. I keep going back to the Declaration of Independence and compare and contrast what the “crown” did to the colonies with what this national gov is doing to us now. We can agree to disagree on this and that’s ok in my book.
“Molon labe” indeed. Unfortunately, I don’t see any Plutarch-like people occupying elected offices! Yea, the Greeks gave us a lot. Too bad they don’t have any spare spines to lend to elected officials or even some of us – tic, sort of.

In my way of thinking, “bipartisanship” today simply means the same policies, just couched in different language or moving more slowly to a bad outcome. Say, guess that word needs to go on our “Watch List,” eh? Thanx, Saltwater! Your moniker says it all.

I learned early in life that you just cannot give up when you got the right spirit and a "never say die" attitude---a lesson proved many times over. It was true for me when I was in the Army (just missed Vietnam) and it is 100%true today because God gives us that spirit!! The spending in washington is "unstainable" and all the lawmakers need to see is what is happening with the "cash for clunkers" plan--the same thing will happen to our econimy if government run health care is passed.

full sovereign power reverts back to the States.
Our central govt is so far in debt that it will never be able to pay it back.
We're talking 10's of $$$TRILLION$$$...that much money doesn't exist and will be the death of the current USA.
After the collapse, one of two things will happen:
1. The States will forcibly (by the remaining central govt) be merged into some kind of regional or global govt, and that'll be the end of liberty in America and possibly the world
2. The States will reassert their independence and we will, at least, have a chance at regaining a measure of liberty
I am not very hopeful that the outcome will be good. People in this country are almost completely ignorant of what liberty even is.

Death of the current “USA” is most certainly a possibility. What concerns me most is what happens to those generations after me. The ability to work, fail, succeed, and die in liberty is precious. I bet if you ask 20 people the definition of “liberty” and probe their responses fully you will find at the core the same base distinctions between “liberals” and “conservatives.”
I mentioned I would be watching for you in the threads and guess what … I found you at BrianR’s place. Unfortunately what I found was not positive … “…. THIS is the model of 'conservatism' the idiots here at TH hold up as a measuring stick? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
To clarify, I am not an ‘idiot’ here at TH. In addition, I love God. I don’t “love” guns in the same way as they are inanimate objects. I may say 'I love my Kimber,' but the word “love” is used in different contexts and means something very different.

No doubt.
I find BrianR to be an old blowhard, who has been very rude to me on occasion, so he gets back what he gives in that dept.
I was referring to the overall tone and composition of the place, the writers, most of the bloggers, and posters.
Take my Ronald Reagan reference: WHY do so many cons insist on holding him up as a model when he did the exact OPPOSITE of what he said he was gonna do?
Where was the outrage when GW/Repub Congress expanded govt the most since LBJ (at least)?
It is this kind of lack of ability to admit reality that gets me riled up.
On the "God" thing: I assume 100% of TH folks here are Christians, who also seem to support unending war and conlfict which kills MILLIONS of innocents. I'm sorry, but THAT is what I call hypocritical.
FYI: I, too, love guns, and love God's LAWS (10 Commandments + JC's teachings specifically) if not a believer in a literal Christian God. However, I don't see too much fidelity to these Laws from most cons--they, like libs, have placed Govt above God, which is a dang shame.
You have a very nice manner online, so you'll get no grief from me.
Take care.

It is incredible that folks here still think of themselves as being "free" and see their oppressors as actual protectors.

You are not a "nag" at all for asking for clarification, and I appreciate your desire for clarity.
To "encroach" is to invade another's person/property in some way. I think ideas of encroachment will probably vary from person-to-person, culture-to-culture and even region-to-region.
An example:
You and I are neighbors, living in a typical suburban development/tract home. I am a nightowl who stays up late (say until 1-2 A.M.) listening to rap music very loudly--so loud, in fact, that I keep you (who are an early-to-bed person) up nights. My actions and music are now encroaching on your person/property by the sound drifting over to your place. Now, I have a right to own stereo equipment and to listen to it on my own property. However, I don't have a right to listen to it in a way that encroaches on your right to sleep and be free on your property.

Back and in Action!
I think Dawn already said what I was thinking. They just keep blaming Bush!
I'm wondering if the next president will be as transparent as this one.

Congrats, you got back from your honeymoon and congrats again to you both!
Hey, Eric, good to have you back and in action. I will be coming by (probably tomorrow) to see what you have up -- assuming you have already posted something.
Sure, the next president will be as transparent as a burka! Just like this one, the way things are going.

I would say this is the proper function of local courts and/or agreed-upon arbiters. I guess you could just ask me to be more considerate (in the ex.), and if I refused you could file a petition in the courts to have your grievance w/me redressed. An injunction could be had, and maybe monetary damages as well.

Yea, my first step would be to talk with the person and try and reason with them. IMHO we need to be more gutsy and confront one-another (respectfully, of course) as the first step.
Thanx for the additional info. Now I can analyze your thread comments – just kidding, sorta’.

Hey, sounds like you are tooling right along. Keep reading is all I have to say. When I first came here, I used to read a lot of blogs. I know it can keep you busy. There are so many great blogs here!
As for your Q, let me turn the tables on you if I may ... who would YOU like to see on the stage for us to rally around?
I am no longer party sensitive per se. As far as I have studied, they are just two sides to the same coin at this point in time. Yes, there are exceptions but party per se is done at this point for me.
