The shifting electorate

Good post. The reason many Republicans are moderating their views is in response to the electorate which is itself moving tectonically towards the mushy middle.

It's becoming rare for conservative Republicans to speak their minds publicly, at the local, state, or national level, for fear of being excoriated by the liberals as "extremists."

At the core of our challenge is the fact that the left has at its command the media, academia, our public education system (which is a reliable machine for inculcating our youth with the tenets of liberalism), and Hollywood.

Against that intellectual and cultural tsunami conservatives must work overtime to make the case that our principles are far more closely aligned with those of our Founding Fathers---a difficult argument in our day and age when people's interest in American history, principle, and traditional values, is at an all time low.

That is because we don't have any leaders, just followers who react to polls. Fred Thompson got an immediate rise by making very conservative statements on Fox Sunday a couple of weeks ago so it's not the electorate. When there is no one to support, how can anyone even tell that the electorate is moving to the squishy middle?
