A Few Nations Under God: Race and National Socialism in America

The Racial Divide

How will there ever be a post-racial America with writers like Mr. Gibson who characterizes American blacks as an 'entire race' of 'indolent teenagers'?

The Racial Divide

A very interesting point, particularly since Mr. Gibson is himself black. Does that change the validity (or lack thereof) of his argument? He uses more generalizations than I would care for but I do believe his fundamental underlying point has some real validity.

Black white or green

Gibbs erroneously advances the falsehood...seen often these pages...that all American blacks are lazy indolent welfare recipients whose political instincts revolve around which party will give them the most government cheese.

And the assertion is indeed false. According to a GAO report from 2002 I believe, in the years between the last two censuses(?) approx. 24% of blacks received some sort of government assistance.

I have no empirical evidence at hand, but I would wager that more than 1 in 4 large corporate farms or oil companies receive some sort of government subsidy.

Perceptioin vs. Reality

I believe that he was using the technique of exaggeration to make his point. It is not whether it is true, it is the PERCEPTION that it is true that exacerbates the racial divide in this country and it is government policy that drives this perception.

We MUST reach the goals of Dr. King soon (and electing BHO doesn't do it) or I am very afraid that Mr. Gibson's forecast of violence will come true.

But Jim

This erroneous perception persists precisely because writers like Gibbs spreads these lies as truth.

It is in fact the lies of Gibbs and many like minded conservatives that exacerbates the divide.

You may be right

Bryce, I think you have a good point there. But I hope that you too will avoid sweeping generalizations!

I thank you for reading my blog and I hope you will not find any such generalizations racially divisive writings in my own works. I hope you will continue to read PatriotsDay and will continue to be an active commentator and participant.

Thanks again.

Jim

And thanks to you for engaging in such a reasoned and civilized manner.

The best of the day to you.
