Why America Is Unique - Part 4

MY COMMENTS ARE ON THE WAY

First I must print Parts I, II, II and IV. I'd like to read them thoroughly. With my eyes just glancing off the words of each section, I look forward to the reading in a leisurely manner.

I am sure that I will like your writing -- and I do appreciate good writing.

Christianity Shouldn't be off the table

Would you agree with me that if politicians are using the Bible as the source of their political positions that the Bible should be subjected to as intense a scrutiny as any other source?

I've asked this question before but either forget or never understood the answers I got. My understanding is that somebody in the Bible said that the sun revolves around the earth. Most people today would go with the science. But this should be proof that the Bible is not inerrant.

Ditto the fact that there are four different accounts of the Marys finding out that Jesus wasn't in the tomb anymore. Doesn't this show that the Bible is an unreliable source for anything?

And, the point, doesn't this invalidate the Bible as the source for opposition to gay marriage and abortion? And, therefore, shouldn't we ask our representatives to come up with better reasons for their positions?

Gabby - Discrimination or Racism?

You are wrong. What I have written has everything to do with William Tyndale, his suffering, and death. William Tyndale was against a heirarchical church that told all Christians what they must believe. I am not aware that Mitt Romney is telling anyone what to believe, are you?

You may vote for the candidate you wish to vote for. You have, unfortunately, missed the point of my 4-part series, "Why America Is Unique." I don't know for sure, but I suspect that you didn't read all 4 parts, and just jumped to a wrong conclusion. Did you, for example, bother to look at the site, Evangelicals for Mitt? The link was provided.

I stand by what I have written. Of course Americans have the right to vote for their candidate. I was referring to those who are trying to prevent Mitt Romney from even being a candidate, and that is not American. There is a fine line between discrimination and racism.

What if Mitt Romney were a Jew, and certain Christians, including Christian ministers, were to say that he is going to hell because he is Jewish, and shouldn't run for U.S. President? Would that be acceptable in your eyes? No Christian would dare say this, because Christians know that God, in the Jewish Bible, or what is commonly referred to as the "Old Testament," clearly states that "He who hates the Jew, him will I hate." This could just as easily read "He who hates the Mormon, him will I hate." Mormons didn't exist yet at the time this was written. Jesus did say that those who are not against him are for him. Do you deny this? If you do, then you deny Christ.

Proud Liberal - Too Proud For The Bible?

Thank you for your comment.

You are saying nothing new. Comparing the four gospels, and pitting them against each other, in order to prove them wrong, is a common tactic that unbelievers use. It is also done intentionally to try to persuade Christians that their belief in Jesus Christ is wrong, and foolish. You don't really understand the gospels, because you don't want to understand them. You are reading them from a preconceived set of opinions and beliefs (or disbeliefs).

If you really understood them, then you might have to believe in God, and even in Jesus, and you don't want to do this. Then you might have to reconsider changing your entire life, and I'm sure you're not in favor of this also, because liberals normally don't like change. They don't want their little liberal world of disbelief in anything other than toxic chemicals in popcorn(recent news story)to be turned upside down.

You have left a few comments on my blog before. I inferred from one of them that you might be an atheist. If I am wrong, please correct me. I believe you mentioned in your comment that there is no God who gets involved in our lives, or in the life of your missing cat; something to this effect. It is posted on my blog somewhere, but, frankly, I don't have the time to look for this right now. You are free to find it if you so wish.

I am happy that you continue to visit my blog, read my posts. I write for everyone, not just conservatives.

Corrections

This correction references my comment to Gabby: "hierarchical church", not "heirarchical church". This correction references my comment to Proud Liberal: "visit my blog and read my posts", not "visit my blog, read my posts"

Gabby - What is Grace?

Thank you, Gabby, for visiting my blog again, and for both of your comments to this post. I want to make one thing perfectly clear. You posted a comment on my blog yesterday, stating that you didn't agree with me. Your new comment suggests that I am the one who disagrees with you! I responded to your comment, as I am also responding to this comment that you just posted a few minutes ago.

I think you said it all when you wrote these words: "I am under grace, not Susan, Tyndale, or the Catholic Church. The bible tells me so."

My Bible tells me that Gabby is not the only person under grace, and that the New Testament does not contain "The Gospel According to Gabby."

You used the words "hatred" and "hate." These were never in my vocabulary. You also implied that it is wrong to hate people one disagrees with, therefore I am going to assume that you now love Mormons, Mitt Romney, the Catholic Church, and all others who are wrong about what you perceive to be "Christianity."

One of the main ideas that I have written about, and focused on, in my blog, is the idea of tolerance. Tolerance and hatred don't belong together. If you had read my biography, you would have known that I was born and raised a Jew. So maybe you can now understand that I am against every form of bigotry, racism, intolerance, and false discrimination. That is why I am so careful to choose the proper words when I write. That is what wordsmiths do.

I stand by every word that I have written, and I am sorry that you have misinterpreted them. You really don't seem to have a clue about the true meaning of my posts or my blog. I welcome further dialogue, but I would ask that your negativity be a little less overwhelming the next time.

Sincerely,

Susan

Gabby - Addendum To Comment 2

I want you to know that although I was born and raised a Jew, I am now a Christian. I perhaps look at Christianity a little differently than you do, because of my Jewish background. Remember that Jesus was also Jewish.

Gabby, Reread your Bible

Addressing solely your statement that the Lord sends people to hell for rejecting Him makes Him intolerant.

He does not send people to Hell, they make a free choice. What you must do to for entry to Heaven is clear, CHOOSING not to follow is what sends you to Hell.
Regardless of what you have done or said in your lifetime, simple faith is all it takes for Him to forgive everything.
Sounds very tolerant to me.

Gabby, you can choose to vote for...

...whomever you want for whatever reasons in the world you want. But so what? Anybody can do that. We are not arguing about legality, but about the virtue or wisdom in doing so. I submit that if you are a social conservative Evangelical Christian, it is not in your best interest to summarily dismiss Mitt Romney based upon his religion. Remember, if you, acting with sufficient others, choose to do that, you will bring upon yourselves in the future the same treatment. Mark my words. You have potential allies in Mormons that instead of ally with, you find the need to ridicule instead. You don't seem to know who your enemies really are.
