Ken Burns' PBS War Series Not Slanted

Sorry Susan

I can't agree. It's subtle to some, overhanded to others, but I find his bias obvious. I just did a post on it, complete with Burns' quote. You're invited to comment.

*Note: I posted this response to davecatbone's comment on davecatbone's blog first, then I decided to post it here, on my blog, also.

Military Forum Appreciates Film

Hello, there, davecatbone! It seems like a long time since either one of us has visited each other's blog. It was good to hear from you!

This is in response to the comment you posted on my "Ken Burns' PBS War Series Not Slanted" post. I totally disagree with you, and, evidently, so do members of our army and air force. You can check out the comments on their forum; for the most part, their comments indicate that they are enjoying watching the series, and see few problems.

I wrote three posts on this excellent PBS documentary. "Ken Burns' PBS War Series Not Slanted," the post you commented on, was my first post, which is basically my brief review of the first episode. My second post, "Burns' PBS War Film Is New Ward Victory' is a tribute to the writer, who, by the way, was not Ken Burns, but Geoffrey C. Ward. My third post, "PBS' 'The War' remembers Ernie Pyle" is just that - a tribute to wartime journalist Ernie Pyle, who was mentioned and quoted in the film.

I think this film is immensely engrossing and educational, and I really find your animosity toward this documentary difficult to understand.

You can read more of my thoughts on this by visiting my blog, and checking out my three posts.

Best Wishes,

Susan

Your statement "I really find your animosity toward this documentary difficult to understand." speaks volumes. I understand your opinion even though I disagree with it. But you're choosing to disregard my reasoning and thoughts about the work and make no attempt to understand my opinion. You're even edging towards demonizing me because I disagree, "animosity" is a bit stronger than my criticisms, but I'll just write this off to the advocacy you obviously hold for this film.

The show

sounds a bit like Studs Terkel's The Good War, a great book that was basically a bunch of raw interviews.
