The sense of "authenticity" as you call it, that emanates from McCain and Palin, seems to create a visceral recoil in the Liberals. And they probably don't fully understand why.

Yes, visceral is a good word for it, Dave.

And, I think that's the reason it's so hard to debate most liberals. It's difficult to, as Chesternton puts it, "test every link of logic," in an argument, when your opponent is only capable of a visceral reaction.
