Stepping on Toes

Hi Dave,

Sounds like you are advocating separating from the crowd.

A Christmas Carol of Charles Dickens seems like a different time and place, but it wasn’t that much different. Britain was becoming industrialized and commercialized to a point where workers didn’t have much free time, so Christmas traditions were being lost.

Nowadays, we have tons of traditions to go along with our work business. Slowing down and focusing on important matters is good advice. Stepping on toes is inevitable when it’s a movement against the crowd.

I wish I still owned some of my old golf shoes with the metal spikes! : - )

AMEN!

Heh, heh, heh, heh!!! I love the golf shoes with metal spikes! But, seriously, whose season is this?!!? I see Christians running around behaving as if they have to be apologetic about celebrating their Saviour's birthday!!!????!!!

C'mon!!!

I love a lot of traditions, Christmas ones included - and I think we in the church need to re-claim some of our traditions, some of our symbols (e.g. St. Nicholas, the candy cane, the Christmas tree, etc.) from the world, and, if we choose, use them the way they were originally intended, much as the stone monument God called the Israelites to raise upon crossing over the Jordan in Joshua 4 was to be used. Use "stuff" to help you, help your kids remember Him and His goodness and faithfulness!!!

If it gets in the way for you, though, GET RID OF IT!!!

I guess it's simple to understand the concept, but, as you indicated, that doesn't mean it's easy going against the culture!

More power to you

Agreed. I like all the Christmas traditionas old and new more than most people. But we do need to fucus on what is important and cheerfully let go of the rest. People do get way to hung up on "having it all." Trying to have it all often does mean missing what your really need.

No Worries!

Hey, Donald!

1) Looking back on my post, it's a little rough, needing some major revisions, etc.

2) I'm an off-duty, former English teacher! No red pens! =)

Recent Tradition

Joe at Evangelical Outpost wrote today that the ACLU taking cities to court over displays of Nativity Scenes is a Christmas Tradition. Funny what happens over time.

Dave,

Your piece begins with a great story to draw readers in. I was captivated. Not bad for and old English teacher.
