Is It Time to Take Back the Democrat Party?

Interesting Concept Stefano

My father was a life-long democrat.
I come from a long line of democrats, and I'm considered a black sheep for daring to vote for "the evil republicans".

Knowing democrats as I do, I'm not sure it could work, because most dems will vote for Barney the dinosaur if he runs with a D after his name.

Besides, first we need to work on taking back the Republican party. :o)

As a Recovering

Dixiecrat, and now a Libertarian leaning Conservative (often Republican) I empatize. I left when Teddy 'Two Quart" got off scot free at Chappaquidick.

What I would like to see is a viable Third Party, ain't happening soon though. Barring that, both dominant parties shucking all of the current sitting CONgress morons. Or just institute term limits on the morons in power.

Jack Kennedy Democrats have no chance at this point, the far left has taken over and they won't let go.
Why so many Uber Leftist Democrats? The Socialist/Communhist Incubators of Higher Learning are cranking them out fast. The commies knew where to hurt us and they did it well.
It's taken since the fifties to put them in place and now in power, even if it was fixed today it will take another fifty years to regain the lost generations.

Jack

Surely, Dems like Barney Frank who are in safe districts will die of old age in office if they want to. The idea is to cause disruption in the party by challenging through crossover voting and running and threatening to run against Dems in blue dog districts or districts where the margin of victory is close. Such a challenge to blue dogs would force them to vote down liberal boondoggles like Obama Care and Cap and Trade.

Gar

Anyone can run from any party in any primary. Blue Dogs have been running as conservatives in the Democrat primaries. True conservatives can do the same thing and call themselves "independent". Congressman Bernie Sanders runs as a Democrat although he is in the Socialist Party. I think it's time to try to move the Dems back to the center. This might be one way to do it and to cause a stirring of the pot in the process.

One thing that I know, since the '40's, anyone with a D in many areas, gets the lemming vote. Now if you tried your plan in an open primary state, perhaps then smart voters could nominate a conserv Dem. But, but, then like Schular in NC, they pose and beat the Pub in a safe Pub district. Or voters could nominate an outrageous liberal Dem only to see him getting the vote against a great conserv because the DNC and media would overwhelm that district to make a point. Reforming the Pub party is more likely if, if as I have written for years, the RNC would reach out to the Libertarians, Const. Party, Indies, and Reagan Dems. Then they could offset the libs in any district. Drop by anytime.

Rac

You're right about the reaching out aspect of this with respect to the GOP. It seems like they always want to reach out to the left, when in truth, the groups that match up ideologically are those like the libertarians, and others you have mentioned. The right ends up with a bunch of names on the ballot splitting the conservative vote, while the liberals, having taken over the Dems, win with a plurality. Clinton is a case in point. He never would have been President w/o Perot's candidacy. On the other hand, Bush would not have made it in 2000 without Nader running. Perhaps we should just push candidates in the socialist party and the green party in order to split the vote of the left.

It is nigh impossible, Stefano, to get

true-conservative candidates to run in REPUBLICAN primaries. True-conservatives want congress to be but a minor player and inconvenience in our lives, not the current 8-ton gorilla in the room.

Producers don't want to be either statists or minor players, so most won't run. Save the Democrat Party? I don't think so.

Pete

There's no way to "save" The Democrat Party. Infiltration is the objective. "Blue Dogs" are causing indigestion now, but many of them are probably bogus conservatives and their votes for conservative values are simply political calculations. IF they were true conservatives, they would leave the Democrat party.

Your other point is also true. It's too bad that more conservatives won't run. A lot of small business men are simply trying to save their businesses under the assault of Obama socialism. Who has time to run? We need conservative folks who will just stay for 4 to 6 years, pass the baton, and then come home.
